REGULAR flmETING

A regular meeting of. the City Council of the City of Clermont
Was held at the city hall on ~uesday, July 2, 1957.
The meeting was called to order by Council President,
Harold Turville, at 7:30 P. N. with all Council ~embers
present with the exception of Mrs. Carrington.
Others present were Mayor Keene, City attorney Morse, Supt.
Sheldon, Police Chief Parker, Fireman Fullwood, Mr. W. I.
Cassin, Mr. Brower and representatives of the local press.
The minutes of the meeting held June 16, l~, were read
and approved as read.
Mr. Cassin spoke to the Council relative to action taken by
the Zoning Board of Adjustment last year. Mr. Cassin de sired.
to know just what property was covered by action of afore
stated Zoning Board of Adjustment and was informed that the
ruling of the Board covered lots 14 to 29 incl, block 9,
Sunnyside unit, and those lots abutting said lots 14 to 29
incl, Block 9, Sunnyside unit, on the East side and facing
Sunnyside drive.
Mr. Brower spol{e to the Counc il with regards to dogs barking
and running loose at night.
Supt. Sheldon was directed to prepare a dog pound immediately,
and the Police Dept. was directed to make a concentrated drive
on picking up and impounding unlicensed dogs.
r''iotion was made by Roe, seconded by Bishop and carried that
street lights be installed at the intersections of 12th and
Hinneola, 12th and Osceola and 12th and Carrol. Mr. Bishop
to notify Florida Powe~ Corp. of the Council's action.
Mr. Bishop reported that he and Supt. Sheldon had called
on Dr. Schrammel with regards the paving of Disston Avenue,
and that after a discussion of the grading situat ion Dr.
Schrammel appeared to be satisfied.

Notion was made by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried
that the Hayor and City Clerk be directed to execute a
contract with Smith and Gillespie, Engineers of Jacksonville,
Florida, whereby said Smith and Gillespie agree to furnish
the basic engineering information required by our financial
advisors and to provide further information as to detailed
estimates and projections which rill be required for thr issuance
and sale of securities for financing. This service to be
furnished for a fee of one thoudand dollars, payable on or
before December 31, 1957.
After considerable discussion relating to a proposed water
rates and garbage Ordinance, Mr. Roe, chairman of the Water
Committee, sugge sted that a meet ing be he Id at his home
on Wednesday, July 10, 1957, at 7:30 P. M. to further discuss
the matter. This was agreed too.

Clerk Johnson was requested to telephone to Mr. O'Neal,
Engineer engaged by the city, and to determine when the
city might expect a report on the paving of Disston Avenue.
Col. Van Nostrand reported on activities of the Building
Committee and stated that in some instances it had been
necessary for the Committee to request that higher cost
est imate s be made on applicat ions.
City attorney Morse reported that He had endeavored to
contact Mr. Dean, of Apopka, but that Mr. Dean was out of the
State and was not expected back until about July lOth.
l'-1r. Turville suggested that a water cooler for the community
building be considered in next years budget.
Motion by Roe, seconded by Bishop and carried that Nayor
Keene be reembursed the amount of $800.00 for expenditures
made on the building at che corner of Minneola Avenue
and eighth street which is to be used as a Chamber of
Commerce office.

It was decided to allow the Council room to be used by
representatives of unemployment compensation division.
Motion was made by Van Nostrand, seconded by tioe and carried
that the City purchase from the Clermont Chamber of commerce
the air conditioner located in the old Chamber of commerce
office at a price of ~~200.00.
Mayor Keene reported that the property abutting Sunnyside
lake was being properly cleaned by property owners and suggested
that the city clean the city pa rk in that area. 'l'his was
agreed too.
Nayor Keene stated that it was very gratifying to him to
know that the city was actually making plans for a sewerage
system and that he sincerely hoped that they would also
go through with their temporary plans for a revaluation of
real property in Clermont.
Mayor Keene reported that Patrolman Blackford had completed
his three months probation servi~e and recommended that he
be engaged on a pegularbasis. Action on the Nayors recommendation
was held up pending an executive session of the Council.
Supt. Sheldon's report was submitted and accepted.
Motion was made by Bishop, seconded by Roe and carried that
Supt. S~eldon be authorized to purchase a paint gun for a
price of approximatelY~38.00.
Police Chief Parker submitted his monthly report, which
was ordered placed on file.
Police Chief Parker recommended that the Police Dept. have
an office on the ground floor of the city hall if at all
possible.
Clerk Johnson read bids for the installation of ten awning
type windows on the second floor of the city hall as follows:
H . Clifton Bailey ,t:~519 .35; C. R. Keene, 536.42; and South
Lake Construction Company, $635.00.
After some discusstion it was dedided .to install only five
windows and the contract was awared to H. Clifton Bailey for
a price of ~259.68. Mr. Bailey was contacted by 'phone and
agreed to the terms.
r'lotion by Roe, seconded by Bishop and carried that the clerk
issue a check in the amount of %1,500.00 to South Lake
Memorial hospital as budgeted.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from William Boyd relative to
rezoning of block 99. The matter was referred to the
~oning Board for consideration and recommendations.

Clerk Johnson informed the council that no bids had been
received on the property which had been advertised for sale
by the city.
Notion by Van Nostrand, seconded by Roe that bills be paid.
