An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the city of Clermont
N3S held at the city hall Wednesday, June 5, 1957.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. with all Council
members present excepting hrs. Carrington. Others present WerE:l
Nayor Keene, City atjorney Norse, Supt. Sheldon, Police Cliief
Parker and Fireman Fullwood.
~r. Bishop reported on prices for awning type windows being
considered for the second story of city hall. Mr. tioe reported
on cost of insulation of city hall. Mr. Bishop was asked to
determine if any of the woodwork of the existing windows needed
replac ing.
ED1. Van Nostrand Reported that in the past few weeks it had
been necessary for the Building Committee to to turn down several
applications for Building permits in the Fire Limits zone due
to the applicant not furnishing the necessary blue prints and
specifications and that in each instance the applicant had
cooperated by givine the necessary information on reapplication.
A discussiion took place relative to types of construction
which should be allowed in the fire limits.
Mayor Keene brought up the matter of remodeling the filling
station, O1\Tned by the city at the corner of Hinneola Ave. and
eighth street, to be used by the chamber of Commerce. Mayor
Keene was requested to submit plans of his proposal and an
estimate of the cost.
Mot ion was made by Roe, seconded by Van NO(3trand and carried that
the city permenantly close the alley extending from tenth street
to the eastern boundary. of Sunset Park and lying between lots
1 & 2, Block 109 and lots 10 & 12, Block 110, and also between
lot 11, Block 125A and lot 1, Block 186A, all in Sunset Park
subdivision, and that t it Ie to said alley revert to the abutt i.ng
property owners.
Notion by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried that the
city attorney prepare the necessary notice and advertisement
and that the city advertise for sealed bids to be opened and
considered at the first regular meet ing in July for the purcha.se
of that part of Block 110 lying south of highway 50; plus
street or alley rightofway and lots 1 & 2, Block 109 as one
parcel, and that part of block 125A lying south of highway;
plus street or alley rightofway and lots 1, Block 126A,.
as ~ne parcel, all property being in Sunset Park, a subdivision
of Clermont. The city reserves to reject any or all bids.
r10t.ion by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried that the
City of Clermont execute a transfer of the lake shore lease
in front of lot 36, . Clermont Heights, from Mr. Hobart to Mr.
Mann. Such assignment to be signed by the Mayor and city clerk.
r/lr. Norse submitted an ordinance amending certain parts of
the electr~cal code which had been requested. The ordinance
was referred to hr. Roe for study and recommendation.
Mr. Sheldon submitted his monthly work reprot.

Police chief Parker submitted his monthly reDDDt which W2S
accepted and ordered filed.
f.iotion was made by aoe, seconded by Van Nostrand. and carried
that Chief Parker be authorized to attend. the Florida Peace
offiders convention at Key west and that the city would pay
his expense s while at the convent ion.
'fhe matter of vacations for members of the police department
was referred to chief Parker.
Motion by tioe, seconded by Bishop and carried that the hours
for holding municipal court be changed from 7:30 P. H. 1'10nday
to 10: "0 A. E. l\10nday.

Motion by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried that Supt.
Sheldon be authorized to purchase two weed cutting machines from
Mr. Smith, of Montverde, at a. price of ~150.00.
Col. Van Nostrand nominated Mr. Harold Turville as a member of
the ~oning Board of Adjustment to fill the unexpired term of Mr.
Sexton. The nomination was seconded by Mr. Bishop, and as no other
nominations were made Mr. Turville was unanamously elected to
membership on the zoning Board of Adjustment.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from }VIr. Heinrich, president of the
Junior Chamber of Commerce, relative to his organization obtaining
the amount budgeted by the city for summer receeation.
Motion was made by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried that
clerk Johnson issue a check in the amofnt of five hundred dollars
to the Junior Chamber of Commerce as budgeted.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Glen Middleton requesting
that the city approved plat s one and three of Shady Nool<: sub
division.
Motion was made by Van Nostrand, seconded by Bishop and carried
that the plat of units one and three of Shady Nook subdivision
be approved and that the f'layor and Clerk be directed to sign the
plot and the owners furnish the city with ~ copy of the plot and
a deed of conveyance to all streets in the subdivision.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Glen Middleton stating that
on October 2, 1956, the city council accepted his personal check
in lieu of a performance bond for the paving of Ramie road in
l\:iddleton Park section of the city, and that inasmuch as the paving
of said Ramie pead waS now completed in accordance with city
specifications that the check be returned to him.
Mr. Sheldon reported that Ramie road had been completed and
was acceptable according to city specifications.
Motion was made by Roe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried'
that the clerk be directed. to return Mr. Middleton I scheck
as the work for which it stood as surety had been completed.
r~otion was made by Roe that an,/. ordinance extending the present
fire limits,which has previously had two readings be withdrawn.
The motion was seconded by Col. Van Nostrand and unanamously
carried.
Motion by Roe, seconded by Bishop and carried that bills be
paid.
.Mr. 30e offered and moved that :t be adopted a RESOLUTION
to the Civil Aeronauitics Board requesting that it give every
consideration for the provision of aviation service to the
city of Leesburg. The motion was seconded by Bishop and
unanamously carried.
A copy of the RESOLUTION in full appears immediately follmwing
the minute s.
Motion Bishop, seconded Roe that meeting adjourn.
