An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the City hall, Tuesday, March 19,
1957.
The meeting was called to order by CouDci1 President
Harold Turville, at 7:30 P. M. with all Council .embers
pre seat. Other II pre sent were Mayor Keene, Supt. She ldon,
City attorney Morse, Fireman Fullwood, Police Chief
Parker and Mrs. J. J. Harrill. Representatives of the
press were also present.
The minutes of the meeting held March 5, 1957, were
read and approved as read.
Mr. Bishop, Streets COlBllittee Chai:rmalt, reported that
Mr. McCaffrey had made a request that a part of Millholland
street be paved, or at least clayed. Mr. Bi.hop wal
requested to inform Mr. MeCaffrey that his request
must be in writting and that such request should also
.tate that he understands that abuttin.g property owners
must pay two thirds of the cost of such,paviag.
Mr. Roe, Chair.aft of the Water Committee, and Supt.
Sheldon reported that appare.tly it would be necessary
to install two two inch air relief valves on the pWl\pS
at the Lake Avenue h DeSoto statioJl in order to
eliminate the air now going into the water l1nes and
cauliftg trouble.
Mr. Roe recommended and moved that the city authorize
Mr. Sheldon to purchase the two two inch valves at a
cost of $62.06 each. The motion was seconded by Col.
VanNostrand and carried.

Mr. Roe stated that he would like a meeting of the
Water Committee sometime during the week to discuss
and consider commercial rates on water.
The proposed replat of v~city Iota bounded by
Highland Avenue, Blaxam Avenue, Almond street and Scott
street, submitted by Mr. & Mrs. John Boyette was
exuined and discussed, after which 1Il0tion was .ade by
Carrington, seconded by Roe and carried that the
proposed plat submitted by Mr. & Mrs. Boyette be
tentatively approved.
Col. VanNostrand, chairman of the Building Committee
reported that a building permit for a motel on highway
27 had been granted.
Col. VanNostrand, recommended and moved that the city
install new screens at the new com.unity building.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Bishop and carried.
The approximate cost to be $36.00
Mr.. Carrington reported that her Committee was working
on a traffic code which would be presented to the
Council at a later date.
Mrs. Carrington reported that she had spoken to Mrs.
Berryman with regards to the city donating books to
the library as a lIemorial to the late Mrll. Morton
Barnes and that Mrs. Berryman had l!!Itated that the
library would be happy to obtain such booklll.
Mayor Keene reported that the Lake CouJ:l.ty league of
Municipalities meeting would be held at the co..unity
building in Minneola on Wedaesday, March 27, at 7:30
p. M.

Mr. Turville presented a proposed replat of certain
lots by Mr. Preston Maynard. Mr. Turville was
requested to call Mr. Maynard's attention to certain
parts of the Ordinance governing replats and to the
Zoning Ordinance regarding the frontage of lots on
city streets.

Mr. Turville presented a replat, previously tentatively
approv~d by the council, for final approval., Mr. Turville
was requested to inform Mr. Middleton that streets would
have to be constructed according to city specifications
and under city supervision and that a performance bond
would have to be posted wit~ the city if the plat was
approved prior to the street construction.
Motion by Carrington, seconded by Bishop and carried
that the motion of the previous meeting made by Carrington
seconded by Bishop and duly carried that the city Clerk
authorize for sale lots 6, 7 & 8, Block 15, Sunnyside
unit be rescinded.
Chief Parker informed the council Dhat a session of
the juvenile court would be held at the city hall next
Monday, March 25, 1957.

Chief Parker requested permission for the Police
department to purchase uniforms with the cost of such
uniforms being advance by the city and the individual
members of the Police department to repay the city
on a monthly basis and if at a later date the city
felt that .it should furnish uniforms the cost of same

relative to the resurfacing of 561 through Clermont
and Minneola.
Clerk Johnson reported that Mr.s J. J. Harris, Mr.
John Middleton, Mr. Oakley Seaver and Mr. I. R.
McKinstry had accepted their appointments to membership
on the City Government Research Committee, and that Mrs.
G. J. Egan and Mr. Harley Beals had declined. Mr. Roe
stated that Mr. Morgan Norris ~ad also agreed to serve.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to write to Mr. I. T. ~~e
and Mr. Dick Watson and ask them to serve.
The matter of Mr. Bliven attending a short course at
the University was discussed and it was decided not to send
him this year.
Chairman Turville adjourned the meeting to an executive
se s sion.
Clerk Johnson was authorized and directed to secure the
necessary bond for Police cgief Parker.
Clerk Johnson was directed to have the new city bran
insured for 80% of the cost, or $4,000..00

Clerk Johnson was authorized to have the water cooler
repaired at an approximate cost of $30.00.
Attorney Morse discussed a radio hook-up between the
City of Mascotte and the City of Clermont. The council
agreed to give the matter consideration.
