ADJOURNED MEETING
--
An adjourned meeting of the city council of the city of
Clermont was held at the city hall on Tuesday, January 15,
1957.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by counci~
chairman Harold Turville with all council members being
present. Others present were mayor Keene, Supt. Sheldon,
acting Police chief Alton Par~er, Fireman FullwoOd,
Mr. Harry Brown, Mr. W. H. McQuistion, Mrs. John Boyette,
Mrs. Harris and others, as well as representatives of
the press. City attorney Irving Morse attended the meeting
at approximately 9: 15.
The minutes of the meeting held January 2, 1957, were read
and approved as read.
Chairman Turville appointed committees for 1957.
A complete list appears immediately following these
minute s.
Chairman Turville requested Mr. Bishop and his committee
to investigate, and to report with recommendations, on
the request of William Boyd for permission to pave Settle
street from Lake Shore Drive (Lime Street) to an undesiginated
point on the South. Mr. Bishop's attention was called to
the fact that said Settle street has a rightofWay of only.
twenty feet and that there had been some question as to such
width being sufficient for a street.

Chairman Roe requested Mr. Roe and his committee to investigate
the possibility of laying a six inch water main to a proposed
motel location between Bakers Freezette and Hook street. Mr.
Roe's report to contain estimates of the cost and if the budget
is sufficient for such construction and the recommendations
of his committee.
Mrs. John Boyette spoke to the council relative to subdividing
certain property now owned by Mr. & Mrs. Boyette. Mrs. Boyette
was requested tosubmit her request in writing to the city
clerk along with a plat of the proposed subdivision, and
informed that she would be given an answer at the next
meeting of the council.
Mr. Niece~ chairman of the Clermont Recreation club, stated
that hist:~rtganlzation wished to thank the past council for
their cooperation with his club and that they sincerely hoped
that they would receive the same cooperation from the present
council. Mr. Niece was informed that this council would
cooperate when possible but that available funds were limited.
Mr. W. H. McQuistion spoke to the Council regarding the work
of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Col. VanNostrand, chairman
of the Building Committee, suggested a joint meeting of the
Zoning Board of Appeals and the Building committee. Mr.
McQuistion agreed to call such a meeting.
Motion was made by VauNostraRd, seconded by Carringtom, and
carried that the following members be reappointed to the
Zoning Board of Appeals for the year 1957: ' McQuistion,
E. G. Winston, Steve Zelazo, H. H. Tully ~nd Russell Grant.

Col. VanNostrand submitted a written report of the Building
oommittee, wherein certain recommendat ions }!ere made.
The council agreed on all recommendations. The report
was accepted and ordered filed.

Mr. Wilson Sheppard, of Sheppard & Sheppard, auditors,
appeared before the council and explained the 1955-56
audit and answered que st ions. r.'Ir. Sheppard was thanked
for his courteous emp~~~tions.
Mayor Keene read a letter from the Atlantic Coast Line
Railroad wherein said railroad stated that it would not be
profitable for them to installa siding to the proposed city
barn, due to the small amount of rail deliveries by the
city.
Supt. Sheldon was requested to keep a cost account of
various city operations and to submit a report at each
Council meeting.
Clerk Johnson read theeep~ti1t.1ons from interested property
owners wherein requests were made for better streeet lighting
and better fire protection in that area bounded roughly by
Highway 50, Lake Sunnyside, Minnehaha. avenue ana Fifth street.
The pet'&t,ions were referred to the proper committees for
investigation and recommendations. Two copies of the petitions
were given to the 'committee. Committee tp report within 30 days.
Motion was made by VanNostrand, seconded by Roe and carried
that clerk Johnson notifY the town of Minneola that due to
certain existing conditions it will be impossible for the
city of Clermont to allow the town of Minneola the use of
said city of Clermont's jail facilities after February 15,
1957.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to deliver a list of all
businesses operating within the city of Clermont without
Occupational licenses from the city of Clermont to Mayor
O. H. Keene for collection.
Motion by Col. VanNostrand, seconded by Mrs. Carrington
and carried that the following be reappointed as members of
the Zoning Board of Appeals for the year 1957:
W. H. McQuistion, H. H. TUlly, Earl G. Winston, Steve
Xelaxo and Russell Grant.
Mr. Hoe offered, and moved that it be passed

RIGHT OF WAY OF STATE ROAD 25, U. S. 27 (FORMERLY STATE
ROAD 8-A FEDERAL ROUTE 19) LYING NORrHERIX"(AND SOUTHERLY
OF RIGHT OF WAY OF STATE ROAD 50; PROVIDING FOR THE

The motion was seconded by ,Mrs. Carrington and unanamously

and that th~ o~dinance be read the second time by title only.
The motion was seconded my Mr. Bishop and unanarnously carried.
After the second reading of the ordinance, by title only,
l\1rs. Carrington moved that the rules be further waived and that
the ordinance be placed upon its passage. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Roe and unanamously carried.
Thereupon the ordinance was read the third time and upon
roll call vote the ayes were Turville, VanNostrand,
Carrington,' Bishop and Roe. Nayes: none. Absent:None.
The Ordinance passed, title as stated, and was ordered
recorded in the Ordinance book and numbered 151. A copy
of this Ordinance appears immediately following these minutes.

Motion was made by Col. VanNostrand, seconded by Mrs. Carrington
and carried that this Council go on record as demanding that
the State Road Department install some method of traffic
safety control at the intersection of Highways 50 and 27,
and that the clerk be instructed to so inform the Division
of Signs and Traffic Control of the State Road Department
with copies 'of the ~ letter being sent to the Department of
public safety of the State of Florida, the Honroable J. Tarr
Bo,yd and the Honorable Welburn Daniela.
The matter of traffic control at the intersection of
Highway 50 and fith street was discussed. Supt. Sheldon informed
the council that the city had a blinker available. Supt.
Sheldon was instructed to get an estimate of the cost of an
installation, and report back to the council.
Motion by Roe, seconded by Carrington that meeting adjourn
to an executive.

At the conclusion of the executive session clerk Johnson
was informed that Alton Parker had been engaged as acting
Police Chief at a salary of $300.00 per month.
