01-02-1957 Regular MeetingADJOURNED MEETING An adjourned meeting of the city council of the city of Clermont was held at the city hall Wednesday, January 2, 1956. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harold Turville at 7:30 P. M. with the following members present: Turville, Jensen, Grant and Beals. Others present were Mayor Boyd, Supt. Sheldon, Police Chief Clark, Fireman Fullwood, Mayor elect 0. H. Keene, Treasurer elect Ross Cantwell, Councilmen elect Charles Roe, Clarence Bishop, George VanNostrant and councillady elect Mrs. Juliet Carrington. Members of the press were also present. Minutes of the meetings held December 18, December 24 and 9'1anua%7.:al were read and approved. Mr. Beals recommended that the new council give consideration to the .installation of a street light n4ar the Youth center on third street. Mayor Boyd stated that he had been informed that Fireman Fullwood had publicly stated that certain irregularities existed in the police department and asked Mr. Fullwood if he had made such a statement. Mr. Fullwood denied making such statement. Motion by Beals, seconded by Grant and carried that bills be paid. Motion by Jensen, seconded by Grant and carried that the Clerk and Inspectors of election held in December be paid 96.00 per day each. Motion by Grants seconded by Beals that meeting adjourn. ORGANIZATION MEETING 07 THE NEWLY ELECTED OFFI CORS Clerk Johnson administered the 'oath of office to 0. H. and Mr. Keene was seated as Mayor of the City of Clermont. Mayor Keene administered the oath of office to George P. VanNostrand, Charles Roe, Clarence Bishop and Juliet Carrington, and said Charles Roe, Clarence Bishop, George VanNostrand and Suliet Carrington were seated as members of the City Council of the City of Clermont. Mayor Keene administered the oath of office to Moss Cantwell and Mr. Cantwell was seated as treasurer of the city of Clermont. Mayor Keene stated that the first order of business was the nomination and election of a chairman of the Council. Mr. Roe placed in nomination the name of Harold Turville 00 as chairman of the council. The nomination was seconded by Mrs. Carrington. No further nominations were made and Mr. Turville was unanamously elected as chairman of the Council. After being seated as chairman the Council Mr. Turville stated that the next order of business was the nomination and election of a vice-chairman of the council. Mr. VanNostrand nominated Mr. Charles .Roe as vice-chairman. The nomination was seconded by Mr. Bishop. No further nominations were made and Mr. Roe was unanimously elected as vice-chairman of the council. Chairman Turville called for an executive session. At the conclusion of the executive session city employees and the general public were invited back to the meeting. Clerk Johnson was informed that all city employees had been reemployed at their present salaries, such salaries 0o not being specified. Labor rates to be continued on the same basis as in the past. Such rates not specified. Overtime for Police officers and extra police on the same basis as in the past. Such basis not specified. Motion was made by Mrs. Carrington, seconded by Mr. Roe and carried that Sheppard and Sheppard be engaged as auditors of the city books. Motion was made by Bishop, seconded by Mrs. CarrBgton and carried that the First Federal Savings and Loan ass'n. of Eustis, the First -Federal Savings and Loan ass' n of Clermont and the Citizen's bank of Clermont be used as depositories for city funds. Motion was made by VanNostrand, seconded by Roe and carried that Clerk Johnson be authorized tor:lpurchase City of Clermont bonds at par, or less, when funds were available. Clerk Johnson was requested to invite Mr. Wilson Sheppard to appear before the Council at their next meeting, January 15, 1956, for a general discussion on the audit of the last fiscal year. Chairman Turville appointed the follow as members of the Building committee, with the first named as chairman: Col. George Vanhlostrand, Juliet Carrington and Harold TurviUle, Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Lake County League of Municipalities, where officers of the city of Clermont were invited to attend the next meeting being held at Eustis on January 16. Six of those present expressed a desire and willingness to attend and Clerk Johnson was instructed to so advise the league.
