ADJOURl'l'ED MEETING
An Adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, January 15, 1963.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Chairman Clarence
Bishop, with all Council members present. Other officials present
were: Clerk Johnson Deputy Clerk Carroll, City Attorney Morse,
Superintendent Sheldon, Inspector Snyder, Chief of Police Tyndal and
Messrs. Westbrook and Drew of Michaels & Michaels, City Engineers.
Others present were: Messrs: George Gallup, Carl Rowsing, Roy Reiman
and representatives of the Orlando Sentinel and of the local Press.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, January 8,
1963, were approved as written.
Mr. Carl Rowsing appeared before the Council and requested the
Council's approval and support of a Proposed Bill to be brought
before the State Legislature increasing the fishing license fees in
Lake County by $.50 to be used for fish conservation work in Lake
County. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson
and carried, that Clerk Johnson be instructed to write a letter of
endorsement for the proposed bill, from the City of Clermont.
~~. Turville, Chairman of the Laws and Auditing Committee,
offered and moved its adoption, a RESOLUTION, pertaining to the issuing
of work orders for work to be done by city crews. The RESOLUTION
was read by Mr. Turville and Mr. Hutchingson seconded its adoption.
Thereupon the RESOLUTION was adopted unanimously and Number 9 assigned
to it and ordered placed in the RESOLUTION BOOK, Page 14, and ordered
posted.
Chairman Bishop reported, for the Council's consideration, the
possible extension of paving East Avenue, from Grand Highway westward
to Minneola Lake Drive. The matter was referred to the Streets
Committee for their study and recommendations.
Clerk Johnson reported that he had submitted the necessary
proposal for street construction in the City of Clermont to the
contractors, Mardis and Hage, for the extension of Montrose Street
west of 12th Street.
Motion was made by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Turville and
carried, that City Attorney Morse prepare a RESOLUTION for the paving
of East Minneola Avenue, from Bloxam Avenue running 315' eastward.
Chairman Bishop brought to the Council's attention, that any
recommendations for change in the City Charter should be prepared
for the Council's consideration at the first meeting in February.
Fire Chief Sheldon submitted specifications for a new fire truck,
for the Council's consideration. Motion was made by Mr. Turville,
seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and carried, that the specs submitted by
Chief Sheldon be accepted and Clerk Johnson be authorized to advertise
for bids.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from ~trs. Jack Cranis, wherein she
requested a reimbursement from the City for damage,which she claims
was recently caused by the Clermont Water Department, to personal
property. Clerk Johnson was directed to advise Mrs. Cranis that the
City of Clermont does not assume any liability in the matter whatso-
ever.

Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Insurance Company of North
America wherein they recommended that a chain link fence be provided
around the water tower on the island at the intersection of Lake
Avenue and DeSoto Street. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded
by Mr. York and carried, that Clerk Johnson be authorized to advertise
for bids for the purchase and installation of a chain link fence
around the water tower at the intersection of Lake & DeSoto Streets.
Cle~r Johnson read a letter from Mr. Gene Gaudette to Mayor
BonJorn, requesting city crews to burn the high brush on the frontage
between Third Street and the abandoned Golden Gift juice plant, before
the ACL's railroad ramble to be held on February 24th. Motion, by
Mr. Turville, seconded by ~~. Hutchingson and carried, that a work
order be issued to Mr. Sheldon to either burn off or disk the area
in question.
Clerk Johnson read a report from the Clermont Zoning Commission,
wherein they made recommendations for re-zoning of certain areas
recently considered at a Public Hearing. Motion was made by Mr.
Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that the report of
the Zoning Commission be accepted and filed, and that Clerk Johnson
be authorized to advertise the Council's intention to hold a Public
Hearing on re-zoning on Tuesday, February 12, 1963 at 7:30 P. M. in
the office of the City Clerk.
Building Inspector Snyder recommended the following named persons
to be appointed to the Plumbing and Electrical Boards for one year.
D. H. Moore, Master Plumber
James Fischer, Journeyman Plumber
E. T. Brantly, Master Electrician
Seldon Hanks, Master Electrician
Forrest Colegrove, Fla. Power Representative
Jack Davis, Florida Power Representative
Motion by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried,
that the recommendations of Mr. Snyder be accepted and the above named
persons be appointed to the respective Boards for the year 1963.

Motion was made by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Turville and
carried, that Clerk Johnson be authorized to advertise for bids for
the purchase of two new traffic lights, to be installed at the inter-
sections of 7th and Montrose and 8th Street and Montrose.
Clerk Johnson read a letter of resignation from Mrs. Dorothy
Koester, resigning her job as Police Radio Dispatcher effective
February 15, 1963. The matter of hiring a replacement for Mrs. Koester
was referred to the Mayor and Chief Tyndal.
Councilman Turville reported that the Council had never received
a report from the Zonin~ Commission with regards their recommendations
for re-zoning as requested by Newald Harper. Clerk Johnson was
directed to attempt to secure a copy of same.
Chairman Bishop adjourned the meeting to an executive session.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and
carried, that Prentice Tyndal be appointed as Police Chief for the

year 1963 at a monthly salary of $~25.00.
Motion was made by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and
carried that J. K. Tryon be appointed as Judge of the Municipal
Court for the year 1963 at a monthly salary of $99.00.
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Hoskinson
and carried, that all other employees be re-hired at their present
salaries and wages.
11otion by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Hoskinson and
carried, that Irving Morse be retained as City Attorney at a monthly
retainer fee of $100.00, with the definite understanding that he
shall not represent any other person, or firm, during the time when
they may be negotiating with the City of Clermont for any reason, or,
during any litigation of any nature in which the City of Clermont is
involved.

meeting adjourn.
