An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, MaY 21, 1963. The
meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Council Chairman Clarence
Bishop with all other Council members present. Other City Officials
present were Mayor BonJorn, Police Chief Tyndal, Inspector Snyder,
Superintendent Sheldon, Attorney Morse and Clerk Johnson. Jimmy Jackson
and a representative of the Orlando Sentinel w~re also present.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on May 7, 1963 were
approved as written.
Police Chief Tyndal, Inspector Snyder and Superintendent Sheldon
each stated that they had nothing to report.
The matter of resurfacing Lake Shore Drive was discussed and
Councilman Turville suggested that the resurfacing be reduced to approxi-
mately sixteen feet in width and designated as a "one way street".
There was opposition to this suggestion and it was decided to wait until
the survey was completed before coming to any definite decision regarding
the matter.
Councilman York of the Street Lighting Committee, recommended
and moved that a street light be installed at the intersection of
Chestnut and Holly Streets. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Hoskinson and carried.
Councilman Hoskinson of the Parks and Cemetery Committee, recommend-
ed that the shore line of Center Lake be covered with fill dirt in order
that grass could be planted and the park generally improved. Councilman
Hoskinson further recommended that the area in the rear of the Kehlor
Park building be cleaned and further recommended that parks in general
be kept in better condition and that consideration be given to assigning
an additional man to exclusive Parks and Cemetery work.
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Hoskinson
and carried, that work orders to issued to Superintendent Sheldon to
clean the area in the rear of the Kehlor Park building and as time
and material are available to have fill dirt and spread same on shore
line of Center Lake. Councilman Tu~ille requested that Superintendent
Sheldon keep an accurate account of the number of loads of:'fill dirt
used on the project.
JimmJr Jackson requested CounciL 'permission to transfer his pre-
vailing beer license to a location on East Montrose Street, described
as Lots 29 and 30, Homedale. Motion was made by Councilman Hutchingson,
seconded by Councilman York and carried, that the trans~er of the
license be authorized provided that City Attorney Morse and Building
Inspector Snyder determine that such transfer is not in violationoof
City Ordinances or State law.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mrs. Una S. Doub, President of
Citrus Actors Theatre, requesting that the City Council donate to
them a plot of land for a building site. City Clerk Johnson was re-
quested to advise Mrs. Doub that her request would receive consideration.
Upon the recommendation of City Clerk Johnson motion was made
by Councilman Turville, seconded by Councilman Hutchingson and carried,
that the City Council sit as a Board of Equalization on July 23, 1963
starting at 7:30 P. M.

Councilman Hoskinson, Chairman of the Parks Committee, advised
the Council that he had been able to secure but one bid for the lighting
of the Shuffle Board Courts at Kehlor Park. After considerable discussion
regarding the matter it was decided to open the one bid and give it con-
sideration. Clerk Johnson opened the bid from Brantly Electric Company
and advised the Council that the amount was $990.00.
Motion was made by Councilman Hutchingson, seconded by Councilman
Hoskinson that Brantly Electric Company be awarded the contract for the
lighting at Kehlor Park and that Clerk Johnson issue a work order for
same. The motion carried with Councilman Turville voting Naye.
Councilman Turville of the Laws and Regulations' Committee pre-
sented for passage a proposed ORDINANCE NO. 4M, the same being: AN
ORDINANCE ABANDONING AND VACATING AN ALLEY LYING BETWEEN BLOCKS III
AND 124, SUNSET PARK, CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING
OTHER ~illTTERS RELATING THERETO, and the ORDINANCE was read in full the
first time and the Chairman referred same to the Streets Committee.
Councilman Turville of the Streets Committee stated that the
ORDINANCE had been prepared at the direction of his Committee by the
Laws and Regulations Committee and the City Attorney, and asked that
same be taken up at this time.
Mr. Hutchingson moved that the rules be waived and that ORDINANCE
NO. 4-M be read the second time by title only. The motion was agreed
to unanimously and ORDINANCE NO. 4-M was read a second time by title
only.
Councilman York moved that the rules be further waived and
ORDINANCE NO. 4-M be read a third time by title only and placed upon
its passage'. The motion was agreed to unanimously and ORDINANCE NO. 4-M
was read a third time by title only. When the vote was taken on the
passage of ORDINANCE NO. 4-M the result was: YEAS: Turville, Hutchingson,
Hoskinson, York and Bishop. YEAS: 5. NAYES: None. So ORDINANCE NO. 4-M
passed, title as stated, and NO. 4-M was assigned to it and ordered
immediately placed in the Ordinance Book of the City and a copy posted.
Motion was made by Councilman Turville, seconded by Councilman
Hutchingson and carried that a work order be issued to Superintendent
Sheldon to install a street curb along the South Side of Lake Shore
Drive in front of the O. H. Keene property.
Motion by Councilman Hutchingson, seconded by Councilman Turville,
and carried, that meeting adjourn to an Executive Session for the pur-
posing of discussing employees.
