06-04-1963 Regular Meeting e . MINUTES N~ 38 REGULAR MEETING A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the City Administration Building on Tuesday, June 4, 1963. The meeting vias called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Council Chairman Clarence Bishop with all 'Council members present. Other City officials present were Mayor BonJorn, Building Inspector Snyder, Superintendent Sheldon, Deputy Clerk Carroll, Clerk Johnson and City Attorney Morse. Visitors present were Messrs. Widmer, Weber, Ekmart, Reck, Nyhuis, Paffan Walker, Loesch and Rook and Mesdames Rook, Nyhuis and Libberton. The minutes of the adjourned meeting held on May 21, 1963 were approved as ll/ri tten. Mr. Widmer, representing Mid-Florida Gas, regarding the possibility of the city using LP Mr. Walker also spoke and recommended its use. their proposal would be given consideration. spoke to the Council gas in their trucks. They were advised that Mr. Paffin protested the parking of large trucks in residential areas, for other than unloading purposes, and recommended that the City adopt an Ordinance prohibiting such parking. Mr. Paffin also protested the use of Bloxam Avenue as a truck route. Mr. Loesch offered the same protests as those made by Mr. Paffen, with the additional }rotest of unnecessary noise and excessive speed of traffic in residential areas. Mr$. Hook endorsed the previous protests and particularly protested unnecessary noise. Mr. Reck protested the number of street intersection "stop" signs being used by the city but was not definite as to location. He further protested the condition of the street abutting his property and urged that it be resurfaced. Mrs. Kay Libberton protested the use of Bloxam Avenue as a truck route, the parking of heavy trucks in the residential areas, excessive noise and requested the imp~ovement of that part of Magnolia Street abutting her property. All persons offering protests were advised that the matters which they had brought to the attention of the Council would have consideration. Motion was made by Councilman Hoskinson, seconded by Councilman Hutchingson and carried that the purchase of safety equipment for the Jaycee Beach be authorized at an approximate cost of $50.00. Motion by Councilman Turville, seconded by Councilman Hutchingson and carried" that the purchase of an outboard motor, for use on the rescue boat, be authorized at a cost of $205.00, plus the trade-in of an existing motor owned by the City, with the understanding that the Volunteer Fire Department refund the city an amount of $100.00 on the purchase price. Building Inspector Snyder submitted his monthly report which was accepted and ordered filed. At the recommendation of Councilman Hoskinson, Chairman of the Parks Committee, motion was made by Councilman Hutchingson, seconded by Councilman Turville and carried, that a work order be issued to Super- intendent Sheldon for the extension of the boat ramp at the Jaycee Beach at a material cost of approximately $100.00 . . MINUTES N~ 39 The matter of a diving board for the Jaycee Beach was discussed and it was decided to delay purchase untim the water was of sufficient depth to allow diving. Councilman York, Chairman of the Street Lighting Committee, recommended and moved that street lights be installed at the following locations: two lights on Virginia Drive between Minnehaha Avenue and the termination of Virginia Drive, one light on Pitt Street approximate- ly one hundred fifty feet West of the over-pass and one light on Fourth Street between Montrose Street and Lake Shore Drive. The matter of paving assessments for Roane Road was discussed and City Clerk Johnson was instructed to have City Attorney Morse prepare the necessary Resolution and notices. Clerk Johnson read letters as follows: From Seaboard Railroad Company regarding the sale of vacated right-of-way to the city. Clerk Johns9n was requested to obtain a map of the area being offered for sale. Mr. Glen Keefer requesting that the City remove a palm tree from the street on front of his residence. Clerk Johnson was requested to advise Mr. Keefer that the Council had previously decided that the City would not remove palm trees prior to August first in order that they might be certain that they were dead. From the Home Owners Civic Improvement Association protesting the unsightly condition of the Spar Service Station at Minnehaha and Highway "27". Clerk Johnson was requested to advise thettIL that the Council had already taken steps to correct the situation. From the City of Ocala requesting permission to operate a radio communications system on a frequency of 153.875 Kc. Clerk Johnson was requeste,d to advise the City of Ocala that their request was granted. From Mrs. Bessie Dillon protesting the possible installation of a sewer system in Clermont as well as various other matters. Clerk Johnson was requested to reply to Mrs. Dillon's letter. Clerk Johnson advised the Council that Mr. James Westbrook of Michaels and Michaels, had recommended Mr. Hill Stiggins as an Architect for the CitJr of Clermont. Clerk Johnson was requested to arrange a meeting between Mr. Stiggins and the Council. Clerk Johnson advised the Council that Mr. Richardson had requested an extension of one year on the agreement between himself and the City of Clermont pertaining to the operation of the Jaycee Beach Restaurant. The matter vias tabled until a later date. Clerk Johnson reported that Mr. Shewey should complete the survey on Lake Shore Drive within a matter of a few days. He further reported that a request for bids had been advertised for the sale of the houses located on the property recently purchased from Mrs. Slone. Clerk Johnson reported that he had received a request to have the right-of-way mowed on Lake Shore Drive East of Twelfth Street. A work order was authorized for this work. . .
