An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, May 12, 1964. The
meeting '~as called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor BonJorn with all
Council members present. Other City officials present were Building
Inspector Snyder, Police Chief Tyndal, and Clerk Johnson. Representatives
of the press were also present.
Police Chief Tyndal was directed to close Lake Shore Drive,
from Fifth Street to Anderson, to through traffic.
Motion by Turville, seconded by Hutchingson and carried that
the purchase of a one thousand gallon water tank for street sprinkling
be authorized at a price of $135.00.
Motion by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried
that the City Attorney prepare for passage at the next Council meeting
an Ordinance amending Section 9-2 (Gas Installations) of the Code of
Ordinances of the City' of Clermont, to provide that yard lines be not
less than 24" under ground and further providing that the suggested
Administrative Chapter of Part II of the Southern Standard Building Code
be adopted by reference.
Motion by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and
carried that the City Attorney prepare for passage at the next Council
meeting an Ordinance amending Sections 5-1, 8-7, 9-2 and 17-1 of the
Code of Ordinances of the City of Clermont to provide that the required
surety bonds in each instance be reduced from 5,000.00 to 1,000.00
A discussion took place regarding the proposed sign control
ordinance and Councilman Hoskinson was requested to discuss certain
proposed changes with the Planning Commission and to report back to the
Council with a recommended Ordinance.
Mayor BonJorn stated that he would like to appoint Mr. A. C.
Lenhart of Leesburg to membership on the local Electrical Examining
Board. Motion was made by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and
carried that the Mayor's recommendation be accepted and that A. C. Lenhart
be appointed to membership on the local Electrical Examining Board.
Motion was made by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. York, and
carried that an expenditure of $100.00 be authorized for the preparation
of a drill field for the Fire Department.
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville,
and carried that the City Clerk write to the management of the Lake Apopka
Natural Gas District and request that they publish a notice in the local
press inviting those persons having complaints that satisfactory repairs
had not been made to damages caused by the installation of gas mains
be reported in writing to the City Clerk.
Clerk Johnson was requested to secure bids on the painting of
all exposed wood and the steel poles of the grand stand and dug outs
at the ba~l field and the exterior wood and cement block of the restaurant
and/or beach house at the Jaycee Beach. Inspector Snyder was requested
to furnish the specifications for the two projects.
Motion by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Turville, and carried that
the Florida Power Corporation be authorized to install four, 20,000
lumens, lights over the tennis courts at Kehlor Park at a cost of $17.00
per month.

Motion was made by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Turville, and carried
that the City Clerk make application to the Trustees of the Internal
Improvement Fund, accompanied by a check for $50.00, for permission to
pump approximately 1,000 yards of sand from the lake bottom to West
bathing beach.
Mr. York recommended and moved that a street light be installed on
Virginia Drive. The motion was seconded by Mr. Turville and carried.
Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, was authorized to
have the necessary repairs made to the dock at the Jaycee Beach to insure
safety of the public.
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville, and
carried that an agreement between the City of Clermont and Lake Apopka
Natural Gas District be declared satisfactory and that the Mayor be
authorized and requested to execute same.
Mr~ Pool reported that written permission had been obtained from
Mr. Frank J. Martin (the owner of the land lying west of the Lakes
Winona-Minnehaha canal and South of Lake Shore Drive) for the City to
temporarily locate the necessary equipment on his property in order
that the canal might be cleaned and dredged. Mr. Pool further reported
that the work on the canal, as previously authorized, would now proceed:
