07-21-1964 Adjourned Meeting . e MINUTES N? 157 ADJOURNED MEETING An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, July 21, 1964. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Joseph BonJorn with all Council members present. Other City officials present were Superintendent Sheldon, City Attorney Roy Caldwell, Deputy Clerk Carroll and City Clerk Johnson. Others present were representatives of the Orlando Sentinel and the local Press. The minutes of the regular meeting held on July 7, 1964 were approved as written. Superintendent Sheldon reported that Lake Shore Drive was ready for surfacing and that city property and street parkways were being mowed and cleaned. A lengthy discussion followed regarding mowing by the City crews of private property and Mr. Caldwell, City Attorney, was requested to pre- pare an ordinance, pertaining to the mowing of vacant lots, for considera- tion by the Council. Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried, that the City crews mow vacant property, when requested by the owner, at a rate of $5.00 per hour with a minimum charge of $3.00. Mr. Hoskinson of the Fire Department and Building Committee recommended that an inter-com system, connecting the Police Department Office and the Fire Department, be installed. Clerk Johnson advised Mr. Hoskinson that he had investigated this matter and that he would report on it later in the meeting. Mr. Pool of ParkS, Cemetery and Recreation Committee, reported that the sand pumping at West Beach had been completed and that picnic tables would be installed this week. Mr. Rutchingson reported that the small tractor and mower used by the City for mowing was badly in need of major repairs and recommended that it be traded for a new tractor and mower. Following a discussion regarding the matter, motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried that the City Clerk secure bids on one new Inter- national .CWD: Lo Boy tractor with size 900 rear tires and one International Danco model C-3 60 inch cut, belly mounted mower, mounted on tractor, less trade-in of our present tractor and mower. Superintendent Sheldon to furnish the specifications. Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agency pertaining to financial advances made by the Agency to the City for preparing plans and specifications for a sewer system. No action was required. The matter of increasing hospital insurance coverage was discussed and it was decided that no change would be made. v1erk Johnson reported that water drainage from Second Street was causing damage to property owned by Mrs. Sadie Tillis. Superintendent Sheldon was requested to investigate the situation and report back to the Council with cost estimates. . e MINUTES N? 158 Clerk Johnson reported that the cost of constructing a platform in the west end of the Assembly Room in the new City building would be $392.00. Motion was made by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried that construction of the platform at a cost of $392.00 be authorized. Clerk Johnson reported on a list of furniture needed for the new Police Station and Assembly Room and estimated cost. Purchase of the furniture was referred to Mr. Hoskinson with a request to secure bids on the furniture needed. Clerk Johnson reported that the installation of an inter-com system, as recommended by Mr. Hoskinson earlier in the meeting, would cost $137.50. Motion was made by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and carried that the inter-com system be installed at a cost of $137.50. Clerk Johnson requested that the Council take some action regarding a sprinkler system for the grounds of the new Police and Fire Department Building and the landscaping of same. Motion 'W'as made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turvi11e and carried that the sprinkler system be authorized aad that Mr. Pool, Chair- man of the Paxks Committee contact the Clermont Men's Garden Club and request their assistance with regards landscaping. Mayor BonJ0rn reported that switches had been installed to the lights at the City tennis courts. Clerk Johnson advised the Council that he would like to meet with the Mayor and City Council in an unofficial meeting to discuss the tentative 1964 City of Clermont tax roll and that he preferred that only Council members and the Mayor be present. It was decided that the Council and Mayor would ~Leet with Clerk Johnson on Tuesday, July 28, at 7:30 P. M. Motion by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson, and carried, that meeting adjourn.
