08-04-1964 Regular Meeting . e MINUTES N? 160 A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuewday, August 4, 1964. The meeting was called to order by Mayor BonJorn at 7:30 P.M. with all Council members present. Other city officials present were: Sup't. Sheldon, Ass't. Sup't. Creech, Police Chief Tyndal, Building Inspector Snyder, Deputy Clerk Carroll and City Clerk Johnson. Others present were: Messrs. Nyhuis, Beals, Newton of Newton Masoleum's,Inc., Stuart of American Family Life Insurance Company, and Twiggs of Adley Associates. Representatives of the Orlando Sentinel and the local Press were also present. The Minutes of the adjourned meeting held July 21st, and the Special meeting held on July 23rd, were approved as written. Mr. Newton spoke to the Council with regards to the possibility of his firm constructing a Masoleum in Oakhill Cemetery. Mr. Newton was assured of the cooperation of the Council, and was requested to report back with complete plans. Mr. Stuart spoke to the Council regarding group cancer insurance for city employees and officials. Mr. Stuart was requested to attend the next meeting of the Council, being held August 18, 1964 at which time he would be given an answer. Sup't. Sheldon was requested to contact city employees and determine their desires in the matter. Mr. Albert Twiggs of Adley Associates of Atlanta, Georgia, Planning Consultants, spoke to the Council regarding planning. Mr. Twiggs advised the Council that his firm had been engaged by the Lake County Board of Commissioners, and the town of Umatilla, and offered his services to the City of Clermont. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Hutchingson and carried, that the City Clerk proceed with making final application to the Florida Development Commission for Federal financial assistance for municipal planning, and that it be recommended to the Florida Development Commission that the firm of Adley Associates of Atlanta, Georgia be engaged to do the planning for the City of Clermont. Chief Tyndal submitted his monthly report which was accepted and ordered filed. Building Inspector Snyder submitted his monthly report, which was accepted and ordered filed. Sup't. Sheldon reported that approximately 250' of 12" drain would be needed to extend the storm sewer from Second Street to Crystal Lake, and thereby eliminate the damage presently being caused to private property. Mr. Sheldon also reported that the breakwater at the Jaycee Beach had been damaged. Mr. Sheldon was instructed not toreplace the breakwater, but to remove the sand from the boat ramp when necessary. Mr. Turville, Chairman of the streets Committee, reported that no further work could be done on Lake Shore Drive until the sur- facing contract was awarded. A discussion took place regarding the construction of streets in the Lincoln Park school area, and motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried, that Councilman Hutchingson obtain written confirmation from the Lake County School Board as to the amount of the expenses which they will pay for street paving in the Lincoln Park School area, and that Mr. Sheldon make a survey to determine the actual distance which $6000.00 will construct. . e MINUTES N? 161 Mr. York, Chairman of the street Lighting Committee, recommended and moved that street lights be installed at the following locations: First street, between Minnehaha and Lake Shore Drive; East Avenue, between Minnehaha and Lake Shore Drive; Intersection of Chestnut and Ryan Streets; East end of East Broome Street; Grand Highway, east of Highway "27". The motion was seconded by Mr. Hoskinson and carril:ld. Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks and Cemetery Committee, reported that he had contacted the Mens Garden Club regarding land- scaping for the Police and Fire Building, and that they were agreeabChe. Mr. Pool also reported that three picnic tables had been placed at West Beach along with two Bar B-Q Stands, and that the remaining Bar B-Q stands would be placed at other locations as soon as possible. Clerk Johnson opened bids on furniture for the Police station and assembly room, which were as follows: George Stuart: $1486.85; F & R Office Supply: $1598.30; Hilltop Book Nook: $1448.79 and $153la88. Inasmuch as two of the bidders did not bid on specific items, the bids were referred to the Building Committee for study with the authority to purchase. Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that the bills be paid. Clerk Johnson read communications as follows: From Mr. W. 'H. McQuistio:n requesting that his sidewalk be repaired where it had been damaged b;y installation of gas mains, and, from Cooper Memorial Library extending Thanks for their last contribution from the City. Clerk Johnson ad.vised the Council that he would write to Lake Apopka Natural Gas District and request that they eepair the sidewalk as requested by Mr. McQuistion. Clerk Johnson advised the Council that Mr. James Westbrook would meet with them on Thursday evening, August 6, 1964.
