REGULAR MEETING
A r~gular meeti~g of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held
in the Municipal Court room on Tuesday, December 1, 1964. The meeting was
called to order by Mayor BonJorn at 7:30 P. M. with all Councilmen present.
Other City officials present were Building Inspector Snyder, Superintendent
Sheldon, Police Chief Tyndal, City Attorney Caldwell, Deputy Clerk Carroll
and Clerk Johnson. Visitors present were Messrs. Tabor, Rambo, ,Judy, Beals
and Vandermeer.
~x. Newton of Newton Masoleum Company and representative of the local
press and the Orlando Sentinel were also present.
The invocation was, given by Mr. Tabor.
The minutes of the meetings held November 17th and 23rd, 1964 were
approved as written.
Mr. ~1cQuistion reported, as requested, on the condition of the piano
in the Conmunity Building. It was dediced that the piano was probably
not worth the cost of repairs. It was further determined that the piano
was used primarily during the Xmas season and Mayor BonJorn agreed to the
lend the city his piano' duri~g that time. '
Mr. Newton, of Newton Masoleum Company, discussed plans for a masoleum
with the Council and advised them that he was ready to start construction.
~rr. Newton submitted plans of the proposed building for consideration by
the Co~ncil. '
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville, and
carried, that the plans for the Masoleum be approved and that the Mayor,
City Clerk and City Attorney be authorized to work out a satisfactory lease
agreement with Mr. Newton and that the Mayor and Clerk be further authorized
to execute same.
Superintendent Sheldon reported that the side walks were completed at
the Police Station and that he would submit a list of those in need of
repairs at the next meeti~g. Mr. Sheldon also advised that a flag pole
would be erected adjacent to the Municipal Court room within a few days.
Building Inspector Snyder submitted his monthly report which was
accepted and ordered filed.
Chief Tynda1 submitted his monthly report which was accepted and
ordered filed.
Following a general discussion of the unsightly appearance of the
"Bird Sanctuary'" sign at Highway 27 and Grand Highway, it was ordered
removed.
Mr. Turvil1e reported that work on streets was at a sandstill due to it
being necessary for all city crews to work on the relocation of water lines
in the area of the "27" - 1150" overpass.

Mr. William Boyd arrived at this time and spoke to the Council rela-
tive to the abandoned Tavares and Gulf Railroad right-of-way which they
were offering for sale to the City. '
Motion was made by Mr. Hoskinson, seconded by Mr. York, and carried,
that Clerk Johnson write to Mr. Boyd and request that he 'contact the
Tavares amd Gulf Railroad Company and determine the amount which they
areaski~g for the property in question.
Upon the recommendation of Councilman Hotchingson, ,Thursday, December
10, 1964 at 2:00 oiclock P. M. was set as the time and date for dedication
cerominescf the Police and Fire Departments building. Mr. Hutchingson
was placed in full charge of the affair and motion' was made by Mr'.
Hoskinson seconded by Mr. Hutchi9gson, ,and carried, ,that the 'City defray
the necessary cost of refreshments.
The matter of better lighting at the Fire Station was referred to
Councilmen Hutchi~gson and Y~rk.'
Mr. Hoskinson stated that he thought a final inspection should be
made of the new building and that it should be accepted if found to be
satisfactory. Thursday, December 3, 1964 at 1.00 P. M. o'clock was
set as the time and date for the inspection and Clerk Johnson was requested
to contact Mr. Hill St~9gins and request that he be present.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Women's Club requesting that a
large-mulberry tree on the rear of their property be removed. Clerk
Johnson advised the Council that the City owned the property where the
tree in question was located but that it was under lease to the Women's
Club. The matter was referred to Mr. Pool of the Parks Committee and
Superintendent Sheldon for invest~gation and recommendation.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the following named property owners:
Lucille Young, Rosemary Young, Howard Young and D'. M. McCaffrey, signing
for his mother, Ml::s. McCaffrey, requesting' that Lots 12, 13, 44, .45 and' 46,
Block 91 Sunny Side Unit, be changed in' Zoning from the present R-l to
C-1. Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. York and
carried that the request be~eferred to the Zoning Commission for necessary
heari~gs and their recommendations. '
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. York and carried
that the names of the following persons be removed from the registration
rolls as they are no longer residents of Clermont: Betty Bailey, Loran
Bailey, Earl Ferrence, Mary Irene Fullwood, ,Martha Harmon, Betty Jensen,
Erik Jensen, .Dorothy Doester, Christy Schlott, Mary Schramel, .Clem
Wolstencroft and Charles Robbins.
Upon the recommendation of Clerk Johnson motion was made by Mr.
Hutchingson, seconded by Mr. Turville, and carried, ,that Mr .Broy1e be
appointed as officer of Election for the General Election bemng ~e1d
on December 8, 1964. Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, seconded by
Mr. Turville,and carried, that expenditures in an amount not to exceed
$300 be authorized for the purchase of plants, trees and shrubbery at
the new City building.
Motion was made by Mr. Hutchingson, ,seconded by Mr. Turville, and
carried, that the plaque, recently' purchased by the Men!s Garden Club, be
sold at cost and that the City crews make the necessary installations.
Motion by Mr. Hutchi~gson, seconded by Mr. Hoskinson, ,and carried, that
