ADJOURNED MEETING
An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was
held in the Municipal Court Room on Tuesday, March 23, 1965
The meeting was called to order by Mayor BonJorn at 7:30 P. M. with
all of the Council members present. Other City officials present were Police
Chief Tyndal, Buildi~g Inspector Snyder, Superintendent Sheldon, City Attorney
Langley, Deputy Clerk Carroll and Clerk Johnson. Visitors present were:
Messrs. Max Judy, Paul Taber, Clyde Thomas, Edmond Amateis and representatives
of the press.
Invocation was. given by Mr. Taber.
The minutes of the adjourned meetings held March 2nd and March 8th
and the special meeting held March 16th were approved as written.
Mr. Bob Bull, representing the local Junior Chamber of Commerce,
appeared before the Council and offered their services with regards to im-
proving the Jaycee Beach snack bar and picnic area. Mr. Bull stated that
small expenditures for paint and miscellaneous r~pair items by the City
would be necessary.
Motion was made by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Turville,. and carried,
that Mr. Beals be authorized to make the necessary minor expenditures,
through the Purchasing Agent, as requested by the local Junior Chamber of
Comme rce . .
Mr. Arnateis spoke to the Council regarding the possibility of the
City purchasing additional land on the East side of Dot Lake, in Blocks
59 and 60 and constructing an open air amphitheater. Mr. Amateis stated
that if the City would furnish the land and necessary labor that he felt
sure that the other expenses could be covered by public donations. The
matter was referred to the Parks Committee for study, cost estimates and
recommendations and Mr. Arnateis was thanked for his interest.
Mr. Beals reported that the septic tank had been installed, and new
wire placed on the -back stops. at Kehlor Park. Mr. Beals praised the
City crews for their help at Kehlor Park for the All States picnic.
Mr. York recommended and moved that street lights be placed at
Chestnut Street, between Ryan and 4th Streets; at Bloxam Avenue and Roane
Road; two lights on Roane Road and on East Montrose, east of Disston Avenue
and that the existing light at Lake Shore Drive, near the canal and on
Bloxam Avenue, hear pitt Street, be changed. The motion was seconded by Mr.
Beals and carried.
Mr. Hoskinson asked City Attorney Langley to please prepare the necessary
sample forms for condemnation proceedings as soon as possible. Mr. Langley
~greed to do so.
Mr. Turville reported that minor construction difficulties had been
encountered at the new well but that they would be corrected and that work
was proceeding slowly.
Mr. York asked Mr. Thomas, County Health Officer, to explain a proposed
rodent control ordinance to the Council. Mr. Thomas explained the ordinance
and strongly recommended its passage. The matter was referred to the
Laws and Rules Committee and the City Attorney for further study and recorr~end~

Mr. Pool reported that the widening of Lake Avenue, immediately South
of the w~~er.tank, was completed and that the resurfacing of Twelfth Street
would beg~n ~n the near future. Mr. Pool also reported' that the area West
of Lake Avenue between Seminole and Lake Shore Drive should be cleared of
undergrowth and that if possible additional right-of-way should be acquired,
as the P7e~e~t width was onl~ thirty feet: Mr. Pool ~g~eed' to' inves:tigate
the poss~b~l~ty of County pr~soners clear~ng the undergrowth. '
Clerk Johnson read a letter of thanks from the Chamber of Commerce
for the help by City crews at Kehlor Park in preparation for the All States
picnic. Clerk Johnson also read a letter from Publix Super Markets, Inc.
expressing appreciation for the letter from Clerk Johnson.
Clerk Johnson advised the Council that it was his intention to
designate one week in April as Rabies Innoculation Week for all dogs in
Clermont.
Mr. Hoskinson presented a Resolution pertaining to an expression of
appreciation to Publix Super Markets, Inc. and Its President, Mr. George W.
Jenkins, and moved its adoption. The Resolution was read by the Clerk
and Mr. York seconded its adoption. When the vote was taken on the adoption
of the Resolution the result was:
YEAS: York, Hoskinson, Beals, Pool and Turville
TOTAL YEAS: Five
Nays: None
So the Resolution as read was adopted and No. 41 was assigned to it
and ordered placed in the Resolution book, page 67, and ordered posted.
Clerk Johnson reported that Lt. Col. Sherman had applied for a lake
front easement on that lake front 'immediately west of Lot 9, Block 4, owned
by him.
Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Beals, and carried, that
the Clerk be authorized to prepare the 'lease and that the Mayor execute same.
At the suggestion of Clerk Johnson it was decided that the Council
~'lould meet with representatives of Hunnicutt and Associates prior to their
program of revaluation of property in Clermont.
Clerk Johnson reported to Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Streets Committee,
that Mrs. Christianson, residing at 525 Minneola Avenue, had requested that some
large dead limbs be removed from an oak tree' in front of her property. Mr.
Pool agreed to investigate the matter.
Clerk Johnson reported that he now had the necessary specifications
for a radio for the fire truck but that before asking for bids that he wanted
the Council to know that a reconditioned set, with 'a new set guarantee, could
be purchased for $370.20 complete and installed. The matter' of making pur-
chases in excess 'of $300.00 without advertising for bids was discussed and the
matter was tabled.
Clerk Johnson delivered to Council President James Hoskinson a petition
from local citizens requesting that City Clerk A. M. Johnson be engaged as
City Manager. Mr. Hoskinson' asked that the 'petition be filed.
Mr. Hoskinson stated that it was his intention to call a meeting of
representatives from the various civic clubs and organizat~onsin.Cle:mCl>nt
to discuss ways and means of remodeling the George W. Jenk~nsaud~tor~um.
Mr. Hoskinson also requested that the Building Committee be 'authorized ,to
proceed with investigation, plans 'and cost estimates' 'r~garding improvements
to the new building~ Authorization was 'granted.

" Mr. Hoskinson further reported that the Clermont-Minneola High School
had requested permiss'ion to hold their annual dance in the building. Mr.
Hoskinson was told to investigate the matter of insurance for such a function
and that if masible permission be, granted to the school.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce was also given permission to use the
building for its next meeting.
Mr. Beals reported that Mr. Sward had requested that the City plant a ,-
cabbage palm in the island on Fift~ Street. Mr. Beals was requested to try
to locate a palm and to have same set as requested.
Mr. Beals also requested that the Council consider eXpenditures for
fencing the Cemetery when they prepare the new budget.
At the request of Mr. York the meeting adjourned to an executive
session.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The matter of a part time Police Patrolman for the Lincoln Park area
was discussed and the Special Police Committee was requested to, give the
matter further study.
Motion by Mr. Beals, seconded by Mr. Turville, and carried, that the
meeting adjourn.
