Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Post 5277, located
in Clermont, Florida, will commemorate its 80th Anniversary with a recognition ceremony
on January 24, 2026; and
Whereas, for eight decades, VFW Post 5277 has honored and supported veterans who
served our nation in times of war and conflict, while making lasting and meaningful
contributions to the City of Clermont and the South Lake County community; and
Whereas, VFW Post 5277 is named in memory of Seaman First Class William Alfred
Suggs, who gave his life aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on
December 7, 1941, and is entombed at the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii;
and
Whereas, founded by World War I1 veterans who made Clermont their home, the Post
has been sustained by generations of combat veterans who served during World War I,
World War 11, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, the Global War on
Terrorism, and other military operations around the world; and
Whereas, for 80 years, VFW Post 5277 has honored the legacy of those who served
and sacrificed, supported veterans and their families, and demonstrated a steadfast
commitment to patriotism, civic involvement, and public service within the Clermont
community.
Now, Therefore, I,Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the 24th of January, Two Thousand and Twenty-Six as:
'VTW Post 5277 Day
In Witness 'Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Clermont to be affixed this 24th Day of January in the year Two Thousand and
Twenty-Six.
