Whereas, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont was chartered on January 28, 1926,with W.M.
McKinney serving as its first president, and four generations of the Seaver/ Hooks/ Baker/
Cummings family have been members for 100 years, beginning with Charles Baker; and
Whereas, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont Foundation was established in 1993 by Oakley
Seaver, John Greenlee, and Dennis Horton to grant scholarships to deserving students in
South Lake County; and
Whereas, the Club sponsored the first Key Club at Clermont High School in 1958 and
currently sponsors six Key Clubs in area high schools; and
Whereas, since the Foundation's inception, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont has awarded
more than $750,000 in scholarships and has improved the lives of tens of thousands of
children in South Lake County through programs such as BUG (Bringing Up Grades),
Terrific Kids, Accelerated Reader, K-Kids Clubs, Builder's Club, Key Clubs, and Aktion
Club for students with disabilities; and
Whereas, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont honors veterans and first responders by
displaying flags on veterans' graves in Oak Hill Cemetery twice each year, has identified
588 sites since the program began in the mid-1980s, and has designed, built, and
maintained the lighted Christmas displays around Center Lake every year since 1997.
WOW, Therefore, I,Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the 28th of January, Two Thousand and Twenty-Six as:
Xiwanis CCub of CCermont Day
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Clermont to be affixed this 22nd Day of January in the year Two Thousand and
Twenty-Six.
