12-14-1965 Adjourned Meeting . . MINUTES N~ 310 ADJOURNED MEETING An adjourned meeti~g of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the 'Municipal Court Room on Tuesday, December 14, 1965. The meeting was called to order by Mayor BonJorn at 7:45 P. M. with all council members present. Others present were City Attorney Langley, Ci ty Clerk Johnson and Building Inspector Snyder. Visitors and . interested bidders were also present. Mayor BonJornstated that the purpose of the 'meet'i~g was to open bids for the alteration and/or additions to the George Jenkins Auditorium and requested Mr. Hill St~9'gins, Architect for the City, ,to proceed. Mr. St~9'gins asked all bidders present if they thoroughly understood the alternate bids which were requested and was advised in the affirma- tive. Councilman Turville asked for, and was given the floor. Mr. Turville read a prepared statement as follows: Mr. Mayor, you and all of us have been under considerable pres'sure from many sources to remodel the Jenkins Building. Bef<5re .\V'eopen bids on its remodeling and before you entertain now or at any future date, any motions for' acceptance of any bids and the .entering into any contract for such improvement, I want to make a motion which, in my opinion, will avoid duplication of problems that 'arose 'under the Fire Station Contract. Therefore, ,f.1r . Mayor, I move that when the Council of this City enters into any agreement or contract for the remodeling of the Jenkins Building, that the City, Attorney incorporate in that agreement or contract a clause giving the City right and authority'to annul, cancel or revoke the agreement or contract' for a period of 45 days from the date of its execution, without any liability on the part of the 'City to anyone else in the contract for any claims, damages, material or labor, or for the breach of the agreement or contract by reason of said annulment, ,cancellation or revocation. I have typed this motion and I hand it to the Clerk so that the Clerk can be sure to have my statement and the motion as stated. The motion was seconded by Mr. Beals. On roll call vote the res'ult was: YEAS: NAYS: Turville and Beals Y~rk, .Pool and Hoskinson. The Chairman declared that the motion failed to carry and asked Mr. Stiggins to proceed with the bid opening. Bids were 'as follows: Henry B. Stephens: Base bid $92,350.00, Alternate '1, ,$15,255.00, Alternate 2, $11,696.00, Alternate 3, $6900.00. Reginald N. Williams: Base bid, ,$98,000.00, Alternate 1,$18,278.00, Alternate 2, $12,680.00, Alternate. 3, $5,570.00. R. Lane Spikes: Base bid, $71,269.00, Alternate 1, $7,215.00, Alternate 2, $2,960.00, ,alternate 3, $6,600.00. Fred Kuhlman: Base bid, $85,424.00, Alternate '1, $21,000.00, ,Alternate 2,$7,800.00, .Alternate. 3,$100.00. All bids were referred to Mr. Stiggins for study, and recommendation at the next meeti~g of the City Council being held on Tuesday,' December 21, 1965.
