SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, May 4, 1966. The meeting
was called to order at 7:40 P. M. with all Council members present. ,
Other City officials present were City Manager McIntosh, City Attorney
Langley, Superintendent Sheldon and City Clerk Johnson.
The invocation was given by Councilman VanderMeer.
Mayor BonJorn stated that the meeting had been called due to some
obgection to the City's program of widening and improving Montrose Street
from Eighth to Fifth Streets. Mayor BonJorn further stated that Mr.
Cbchran~, Chairman of the Public Works Committee would explain why
the program had been unanimously agreed upon by the City Council.
Mr. Cochran explained to those present that his committee had
given the improvement program lengthy and serious consideration prior
to recommending it to the City Council; that it was the unanimous
conclusion of his committee that the program adopted by the City Council
and now underway was in the best interest of the majority of our
citizens and taxpayers.
Mayor BonJorn opened the meeting for discussion.
Following a full discussion of the question Mr. Beals moved that
the project of widening and surfacing Montrose Street from 5eventhtt~
Fifth Streets be limited to from Lake Avenue to Se~ertih and that the'
proposed improvements from Lake Avenue to Fifth Street be abandoned.
Mr. Hoskinson stated that he was seconding the motion in order to bring
it to a vote.On Roll Call vote the result was:

Beals
VanderMeer, Turville, Cochran and Hoskinson.
The motion failed to carry and, therefore, the improvements ordered
at a previous meeting are to continue.
Mr. Hoskinson advised the Council that there were a few matters to
be discussed with regards to the construction of the George Jenkins
Auditorium. Mr. Hoskinson reported that in several instances the con-
tractor had failed to follow the specifications as set forth in his
contract and that the Council must also come to a conclusion regarding tile
in the rest rooms. ~ exhaust fan for the rest rooms and lighting for
the stage area.
It was unanimously agreed that the City Manager should advise' the
architect, Mr. Hill Stiggins, that they expect to contractor to make any
and all corrections to the building which are necessary to comply with
the plans and specifications for said building and that the City Manager
also determine definite costs for additional lighting, tile in the rest
rooms and an exhaust fan, or fans.
