ADJOURNED MEETING
An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held on Tuesday, March 28, 1967 in the Council Chambers. The meeting
was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor BonJorn with the following
members present: Councilmen Prior, Cochran, Oswalt and VanderMeer.
Other city officials present were: City Manager Johnson, Deputy Clerk
Carroll, Superintendent Sheldon, City Attorney Langley, Building Inspector
Snyder and Chief of Police Tynda1. Others present were: The Messrs.
Paul Taber and William W. Boyd. Representatives of the Orlando Sentinel,
the Leesburg Commercial and the local Press were also present.
The invocation was given by Mr. Taber.
The minutes of the meeting held on March 14, 1967 were approved
as written.
Mr. William W. Boyd, representing the Downtown Merchants Association,
appeared before the Council and reported that inasmuch as the cigarette
tax which the city receives is based on local cigarette sales only, that
the Association would put on an advertising campaigh to prmmote local
sales of cigarettes and then request that any revenue of cigarette
taxes derived over and above the amount estimated in the budget be allocated
to the Chamber of Commerce for publicity. Mr. Boyd respectfully asked
that the Council give this matter their consideration. There was no
action taken.
Councilman Beals arrived at this time.
City Manager Johnson submitted his report both orally and written.
A copy is attached hereto.
City Attorney Langley commended the City Manager in his pre~a~at~on
of the preliminary application for a sewer system grant which has been
forwarded to Washington.
City Attorney Langley requested a work session of the Council with
regards the proposed charter changes for Tuesday, April 4, 1967 at
7:30 P. M. in his office.
City Attorney Langley inquired of the Council their desire for his
active participation in enforcing existing ordinances such as trash _
junk - juvenile prob1ems- trailers, etc. It was the concensus that this
matter be considered at the work session on April 4th.
Councilman Prior reported that a fish fry to benefit the C1ermont-
Minneola Little Major League would be held on April 7, 1967, and that
the opeeing game of Little League would be on April 8, 1967 and he
extended an invitation to Mayor BonJorn to participate in the opening
exercises on that date at 3:30 P. M.
Councilman VanderMeer inquired of the City Manager if the sprinkling
system had been installed at Sunset Park, and if the p1antings for
Keh10r Park were available. City Manager Johnson advised that the materials
for the sprinkling system were on order and that he would check this week
to see if the p1antings were ready for Keh10r Park.
Councilman Cochran recommended that a report from the Chamber of
Commerce be submitted to the Council periodically showing expenditures of
the Chamber for general operations and those for publicity.
Councilman Oswalt offered and moved that it be passed an ORDINANCE
UNDER THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY~ FLORIDA:

JUDGE TO SERVE IN THE ABSENCE OR DISABILITY OF THE MUNICIPAL JUDGE:
SETTING THE RATE OF COMPENSATION FOR SAID SECOND MUNICIPAL JUDGE: PROVIDING
FOR HIS ELECTION BY COUNCIL. The motion was seconded by Councilman
VanderMeer and unanimously carried. The Ordinance was read in full and
upon roll call vote the result was: Ayes: Prior, Bea~~~ Cochran, Oswalt,
and VanderMeer. Total Ayes: Five. Nayes: None. Absent: None. So the
Ordinance passed, title as stated, and was ordered posted in the Ordinance
Book and Number 25-C assigned to it and a copy ordered posted.
Councilman Prior inquired if anything had been done toward constructing
horse-shoe pitching courts in Kehlor Park and he was advised that there
had not been to date.
City Manager Johnson reminded the Council of the public hearing on
zoning to be held on Friday night, March 31, 1967, at 7:30 P. M.
Motion by Councilman Beals, seconded by Councilman Cochran and
carried that the meeting be adjourned.
