An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held in the City Administration Building on
Tuesday, October 16, 1962. The meeting was called to order
at 7=30 P. M. by Council Chairman, W. W. Boyd, with the
following members present: Messrs Turville and York. Other
officials present were: ~ayor Bon Jorn, Clerk Johnson,
Deputy Clerk Carroll, City Attorney Morse, Superintendent
Sheldon, Building Inspector Snyder and Chief of pelice Tyndal.
A representative of the Orlando Sentinel was also present.
The minutes of the Regular meeting held Tuesday, October
2, 1962, were approved as written.

Chief Tyndal reported that he had been checking on local
businesses for City Occupational Licenses, and that the
majority of them had already purchased or renewed a license
for this year.
Ivlr. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, reported that
new water mains had been installed on Chestnut Street, and,
on Holly Street down to Seminole.
Clerk Johnson reported that the petition, signed by at
least 75% of the downtown merchants requesting the removal of
the parking meters, had been received and was on file. Motion
was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by ~~. York and carried,
that Chief Tyndal be authorized to remove the parking meters
a few days prior to the end of the month inasmuch as October
30th is the end of the fiscal year, thus allowing time for all
parking meter monies to have been deposited. Included in
the motion was that the parking meters should be conditioned
and stored'.
Councilman Bishop arrived at this time.
Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the Street Committee, reported
that the grades had been set on Juniata and DeSoto Streets
in the Lincoln Park area.

Clerk Johnson reported that the City Engineers had made
a final inspection of the newly constructed pump house at
Lake Avenue and DeSoto Streets, had given their approval for
acceptance, and that the bill had been paid.
Clerk Johnson read an invitation from Mrs. Juliet Carrington,
Chairman of the Cooper Memorial Library Board, to the Mayor
and I~lembers of the Council to attend an "Open House" at the
Library on October 26, 1962 from 2 to 5 P. M.
Mr. Turville, Chairman of the Laws and Auditing Committee,
offered and moved its adoption, a RESOLUTION pertaining to
Civil Defense emergency interim succession to executive offices.
The RESOLUTION was read by Mr. Turville and Mr. York seconded
its adoption. Thereupon the RESOLUTION was adopted unanimously
and Number 7 assigned to it and ordered placed in the RESOLUTION
BOOK, Page 11, and 12, and ordere6. posted.
Clerk Johnson reported that previous authorization had
Deen siven ~or the purchase of a'remote control radio unit
to be installed,at the City Barn, however, that upon investi-
gation, he had been advised that there would be a $5.00
monthly fee to Florida Telephone Corp. for use of their lines,

and, inquired of the Council if they desired to go ahead
with the purchase an installation of same. Motion by r~.
Bishop, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that the Clerk
be authorized to issue the necessary purchase order for the
purchase and installation of a remote control radio unit at
the City Barn.
Clerk Johnson reported that he had received the necessary
information to proceed with working out the details for the
paving of a street into the property of Mrs. Hattie Porter.
Councilman Bishop suggested that a Special Committee be
appointed at this time to meet with a Committee from the
South Lake tlemorial Hospital Board, with regards the possi-
bility of the Hospital acquiring certain city owned property
for hospital expansion.
Councilman Pool arrived at this time.

Chairman Boyd recommended the following persons to
serve on such a Committee: Wm. Boyd, fIayor Bon Jorn, Clarence
Bishop, and City Attorney Morse. Motion by Mr. Turville,
seconded by Mr. Pool and carried2 that the above mentioned
named persons be appointed as a bpecial Committee to meet
with a Committee from the Hospital Board.
Councilman Bishop reported that he had received a request
from the Welfare League to have Montrose Street, from 7th to
8th Streets, roped off on Wednesday, October 31st, to be used
for their annual Halloween Carnival, instead of the City parking
lot which had been previously requested. notion by Mr. Turville,
seconded by Mr. Pool and carried, that the request of the
Welfare League be granted.
Mayor Bon Jorn requested Councilman Turville to read a
letter from the Attorney General, in reply to several questions
submitted, pertaining to city officials engaging in business
with the municipality which they serve. General discussion
followed the reading of the letter.
Chairman Boyd advised Mayor Bon Jorn that it was his
understanding that the ~ederal Government in some instances,
would make outright grants of up to 75% of total cost of
certain types of public works, and suggested that the Mayor
'obtain additional information regarding the matter.
Chairman Boyd reported to Council that after reading the
minutes of the Public Hearing held March 20, 1962, relative
to a petition submitted by H. Rogers requesting a change in
zoning of the Lake Highlands Hotel property, it appeared to
, him that no property owners within 150' of the rear or front
of the property in question had offered verbal objections.
Chairman Boyd further stated that in view of this finding
that he recommended that the matter be returned to the Zoning
Commission for further review. At the request of Chairman
Boyd, Clerk Johnson read the minutes of the public hearing in
question and it appeared from such minutes that a petition
had been pre~ented at the he~ring, which is not on record
in the City vlerk's office. Clerk Johnson was requested to
contact the Chairman of the Zoning Commission in an effort
to obtain the petition in question.
Motion by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Bishop and carried,
that the meeting be adjourned.
