SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the City Administration building on Thursday, September
6, 1962.

The meeting was called to order by Council Chairman William
Boyd at 7:30 P. M. with all council members present. Others
present were Mayor Bon Jorn, Superintendent Sheldon, Police Chief
Tyndal, Clerk Johnspn, ~ack Gaines, Joe Duncan, Harold Roberts,
Harley Beals, Clayton Peck and Jay Vandermeer. A representative
of the Orlando Sentinel was also present.
Mr. Roberts, representing the Greater Chamber of Commerce,
spoke to the Council relative to the needs of the Chamber for
the coming year. An audit of past operations was presented to
the Council and a request made for $5500.00 for the year 1963.
Mr. Clayton Peck and Mr. Jay Vandermeer spoke to the
Council regarding a recreational program for next year and
recommended that funds be budgeted to engage a recreational
director and to pay umpires for Little League ball games.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Gene Nowell recommending
that funds be provided in the budget for a Recreational Director
and further recommended that Mr. Norman Julich be engaged
for the job.
Mr. Harley Beals spoke to the Council regarding the
possibility of fencing the cemeteries at a cost of $11,288.00
and agreed to raise over half of the cost from public donations
if the city would pay the remainder. - - '
Councilman Pool recommended that the following listed amounts,
be included in the 1962-63 budget: Community Building, $50,000;
Center Lake Park, $2,000.00; Kehlor Park light repairs, $800.00;
Recreational Director, $900.00; Umpires $300.00; Additional
~umping on Lincoln Park,bathing beach $1900.00; Tennis Courts,
$lQOO.OO and diving board and boat dock at Jaycee Beach, $700.00.
Councilman Pool further recommended that Minneola Avenue from
7th to 5th Streets be widened.
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to discussing the
proposed budget.
Motion by ~. Bishop, seconded by Mr. York~ and carried,
that meeting be adjourned.
