An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City
of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on
Tuesday, August 21, 1962. The meeting was called to order
at 7: 30 P. 1:'1. by Chairman "LW . Boyd, with all Council
members present. Other officials present were: Mayor
Bon Jorn, Clerk Johnson, Deputy Clerk Carroll, City Attorney
Morse, Superintendent Sheldon, Inspector Snyder and Chief
of Police Tynda1. Others present were: Messrs. Vernon
Brower and James Montgomery. Representatives of the Orlando
Sentinel and of the local press, were also present.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting held on Tuesday,
August 7, 1962, wert approved as written.
Mr. Vernon Brower appeared before the Council and
submitted a petition to them, signed by interested property
owners, requesting the installation of a 6" water main
and additional fire hydrants in an area of Clermont Heights
Subdivision. Chairman Boyd advised Mr. Brower that this
area was included in the extensive "later distribution'
project which was now underway. The petition was ordered
filed.
Mr. James Montgomery, representing Mrs. Hattie Porter,
appeared before the Council and requested that a 50' right-
of-way, ow~ed by Mrs. Porter and now a part of Lot 3 in Block
"0" . of Linc'oln Park be accepted as a city street. The
matter was referred to the Streets Committee for their
investigation and action.
Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the Streets Committee, reported
that the ramp at the foot-ball field had been completed,
and that County crews were presently working on the drains.
Councilman Pool reported that due to recent rains,
there had been considerable wash-outs around Center Lake
off West Avenue, and that Superintendent Sheldon was of
the opinion that at least 4 storm sewers would be needed
to correct the matter. Motion by Mr. Turvi11e, seconded by
Mr. Pool and carried that Superintendent Sheldon be
authorized to install the necessary storm 'sewers around
Center Lake.
Chairman Boyd reported that the paving of Hook Street
an~ East Avenue had been completed.

Clerk Johnson read a letter from Michaels and Michaels,
City Engineers, wherein they reported the paving of East
Avenue as satisfactory.

Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, reported
that the beautification project of Center Lake was
progressing, and that several different kinds of p1antings
had been donated for the project, but that he hoped for
additional monetary donations in order to complete the
project.
Mr. York, Chairman of the Street Lighting Committee,
reported that he had received a request for a street light
to be installed at the intersection of Pitt Street and
Shady Nook Lane, and, that upon investigation of same he
so moved that one be installed. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Bishop and carried. Clerk Johnson was instructed
to issue the necessary work order for same.
Mr. Turvil1e, Chairman of the Laws and Auditing
Committee, moved that the assessment roll of all taxable
property in the ,City of Clermont be accepted as the 1962
Tax Roll, and the Millage for 1962 be the same as in 1961.
Chairman Boyd ruled that the motion was out of order.

~lerk Johnson read a letter from the State Road
Department wherein they stated that they knew of no 'good
reason to take another traffic count at the intersection
of 5th Street and highway 50 as two previous ones had been
taken without any action by the City, and further, they
desired to know whether or not the city intended to use
the permit obtained for the installation of a traffic light
at the intersection or to have it cancelled. :Mr. Bishop
reported that he had received a letter from the Home Owners
Civic Improvement Association requesting that the $5,000.00
allotted in the 1961 budget for a traffic light at the
intersection of Highway 50 and 5th Street, be carried over
to the 1962 budget. The matter was referred to Chairman
Boyd and the Streets Committee for their investigation and
recommendations.
Clerk J.ohnson read a letter from Hr. Harry Hilton
wherein he wished to ~e11 to the city certain properties
located near the Jaycee Beach (Lots A-B-C-D-E and a strip
between Lot 6 of Block 52 and Lake :Minneola) at a cost
of ~6,400.00. City Attorney Morse was requested to check
the titles of these properties and report back to the
Council at the next meeting.
Clerk Johnson suggested that along with the city
purchasing new two-way radio system, that a remote control
unit be purchased and installed at the city barn. :Motion
by Mr. Bishop, seconded, by Mr. Turvi1le and carried,
that such unit be purchased and placed~at the city barn.

Clerk Johnson reported that the roof on the old
City Hall building was in need of repair. Clerk Johnson
read a bid from Clermont Roofing and Sheet Metal to replace
the present reof at a cost of $875.00. Mayor Bon Jorn
suggested that the interior of the old city hall needed
repairs and remodeling also. Chairman Boyd requested that
the Building Committee make an investigation of the
needed repairs and make recommendations back to the Council.
Chairman Boyd mentioned, for consideration and
discussion, the need of an R-3 zone in the City of Clermont.
Nr. Boyd further appointed the entire Council as a Special
Committee, with Mr. Bishop as Chairman, to seriously
consider and study the matter and report at the next
Council meeting. )

carried that the meeting be adjourned.
