REGULAR MEETING

Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday -
July 3, 1962. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M.
by Chairmah William Boyd, with all Council members present.
Other officials present were: Miyor BonJorn, Clerk Johnson, .
Deputy Clerk Carroll, Sup't. Sheldon, Building Inspector Snyder,
City Attorney Morse and Chief of Police Tyndal. Others present:
Messrs. Jimmy Westbrook, Arthur Ekiert, and representatives of
the Orlando Sentinel and of the local Press.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting held June 19, 1962,
and of the special meeting held June 22, 1962, were approved
as written.
Pomice Chief Tyndal submitted his regular monthly report,
which was accepted and ordered filed.
Building Inspector Snyder submitted his regular monthly
report on building, which was accepted and ordered filed.
City Sup't. Sheldon reported that the paving of Millholland
Street, between Almond Street and State Road # 50, was completed.
Sup' t. Sheldon further reported that 2" water lines had been laj:.-d:'
along Broome Street in the Lincoln Park area, and along Juniata
Street east of 5th Street. Mr.Sheldon further reported that the
remaining islands had been removed from East Avenue.
Mr. Westbrook, of Michaels and Michaels, Engineers, reported
that a survey had been made of East Avenue, and, that it was their
recommendation that the street be re-worked, additional lime rock
added, and re-surfaced. Mr. Westbrook further reported that com-
plete plans would be delivered to the City within a few days, or,
by Monday next, at the latest.
Councilman Boyd recommended that the property owners be
ordered to construct a side-walk along East Avenue from Highway
# 50 to the school. No action was taken on the recommendation.
Councilman Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, recommended
that some type of floats be constructed and placed in Center Lake
for the use of sw~s when nesting. No action was taken on the re-
commendation. Councilman Pool further recommended that additional
sand be removed from the canal, under the bridge, between Lake
Winona and Lake Minnehaha. After some discussion regarding the
recommendation, it was decided that the work be done under the
supervision of the Streets Committee, and Clerk Johnson was req~estec
to issue a work order under such condition. '
Mayor BonJorn called to the Council's attention that the
rule of "work orders lion all work being issued by the City Clerk"
was not being carried out. Council members agreed that th~s practice
should be followed.

Councilman York, Chairman of the Street Lighting Committee,
reported that he would like to have a meeting of his Committee,
to discuss possible street light improvement and extensions, prior
to the next meeting of the Council.
Clerk Johnson reported that he had not requested bids on new
radio equipment due to certain complications as to the type of
equipment to be purchased. The matter was tabled until the next
meeting of the Council.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Clermont-Groveland Elks
Club, wherein their thanks was expressed for work done by City
crews.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the local Post of the Ameri-
can Legion, expressing their unanimous support for the establish-
ment of a National Guard Platoon in Clermont, and offering their
full support and facilities for the use of such a Platoon, when,
and if, organized.

Mr. Turville of the L~ws and Auditing Committee, presented
for passage, a proposed Ordinance No. l-C, the same being,
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUB-PARAGRAPH (C) OF SECTION 16-3 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF CLERMONT, FLORIDA, and the Ordinance
was read in full the first time and the Chairman referred same to
the Laws and Auditing Committee. Mr. Turville, of the Laws anm
Auditing Committee, stated that this Ordinance was prepared by his
Committee at the direction of the City Attorney and asked that
same be taken up at this time. Mr. Turville moved that the rules
be waived and that Ordinance No. l-C be read a second time by title
only. The motion was agreed to unanimously and Ordinance No. l-C
was read a second time by title only. The third reading of the
Ordinance was 'postponed until the next~meetmng.
Mr. Preston Maynard appeared before the Council and requested
a reduction in the assessed valuation of certain of his properties,
basing his plea on the fact that the assessed value as shown by the
City is in excess of the actual purchase price. Mr.Maynard was
assured that the matter would have full consideration at the Board
of Equalization meeting being held on July 24, 1962.
Motion was made by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. York and carried,
that the bills be paid.
Motion by Mr. Bishop, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried, that
the meeting be adjourned until July 17, 1962 at 7:30 P.M.
