REGULAR MEETING

A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday,
May 1, 1962. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M.
by Council Chairman William Boyd with all members present
excepting Mr. York. Other officia~s present were: Mayor
Bon Jorn, Clerk Johnson, Deputy Clerk Carroll, City Attorney
Morse, Superintendent Sheldon, Inspector Snyder and Chief
of Police Tyndal. Others present were: Messrs. Westbrook
and Michaels of Michaels consulting engineering firm of
Orlando, Harley Beals, and representatives of the Orlando
Sentinel and of the local press.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting held on Tuesday,
April 17, 1962, were approved as written.
Mr. Harley Beals appeared before the Council and sub-
mitted to them a proposal to have an iron fence installed
around Oakhill Cemetery at a cost of $11,288.00 with the
understanding that one-half of this cost would be by
donations from interested citizens if the Council would
agree to pay the remaining one-half. The matter was referred
to the Parks Committee for their study and recommendations.
Mr. R. K. Michaels of Michaels engineering firm of
Orlando, appeared before the Council and offered their
services as consulting engineers. Motion was made by
Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Pool and carried, that the
firm of A. P. & R. K. Michaels, Consulting Engineers, be
retained by the City for the next four months at a cost of
$25.00 per month.
Chief of Police Tyndal submitted his regular monthly
police report, which was accepted and ordered filed.
Building Inspector Snyder submitted a report on building
for the month of April, which was accepted and ordered filed.
Superintendent Sheldon reported that the water pumps
had run for a total of 406 hours during the month of April,
which was an increase over March, but yet considerably
under capacity. Superintendent Sheldon submitted a written
report of total man and equipment hours in all departments
for the month of April. Mr. Turville inquired of Superin-
tendent Sheldon the present water level in the wells of
the City, and Superintendent Sheldon stated he would check
same and report at the next meeting.
Mr. Biship, Chairman of the Streets Committee, reported
that the settling basin for street drainage on Sunset Drive
had been completed.

Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, reported
that the dock at the Jaycee Beach was in need of repair
and also additional barrels for trash at the Beach were
needed. Superintendent Sheldon was instructed to take
care of these matters. Chairman Pool further reported that
the planting of shrubs and flowers in Oakhill Cemetery,
supervised by members of the Men's Garden Club, was underway
and would be competed soon. He still further reported
that palm trees had been planted at the Municipal Stadium,
and that to carry out further the beautification program
of the Stadium, he moved that the Parks Committee be
authorized to purchase confederate jasmine plants, at a
cost of $50.00, to be planted along the fence surroun~mng
the Stadium. The motion was seconded by Mr. Turville and
carried.
Mr. Turville reported that due to the present extremely
low water level at the Jaycee Beach, that signs were needed
immediately prohibiting all diving from the dock, and,
that the safety lines be replaced in the bathing area.
Motion was then made by Mr. Turvil1e that signs, "NO DIVING
OFF DOCK - LOW WATER - by order of the Police Department"
and the safety line be installed at the Jaycee.Beach as
soon as pOSSible. The motion was seconded by Mr. Pool,
and carried. Superintendent Sheldon and Chief Tyndal were
instructed to take care of this matter.

Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. C. E. Duncan,
Attorney for the Board of County Commissioners, with regards
to the paving of Hook Street, jointly by the City and the
County.
Motion by Mr. Turvil1e, seconded by Mr. Bishop and
carried, that the bills be paid.
Chairman Boyd requested Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the
Streets and Sidewalk Committee, to investigate the sidewalks
adjacent to the Gables Hotel and the sidewalk on the north
side of Montrose Street from 7th Street to Lake Avenue, and
report on same at the next meeting.
City Attorney Morse advised that all operators of City
owned equipment should be warned that the State Supreme
Court does not recognize turn signals on motor vehicles and
that therefore hand signals should be used at all times.
Motion by Mr. Bishop, seconded by Mr. York and carried that
meeting be adjourned until May 15, 1962, at 7:30 P. M.
