04-17-1962 Adjourned Meeting ADJOURNED MEETING ~ An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, April 17, 1962. The meeting was called to order at &:30 P. M. by Chairman \-lilliam Boyd with all Council members present. Other officials present were: Clerk Johnson, Deputy Clerk Carroll, City Attorney Morse, Superin- tendent Sheldon, Inspector Snyder, and Chief of Police Tyndal. Others present were: Mr. Morris Erdmann and representatives of the Orlando Sentinel and the local press. The minutes of the regular meeting held Tuesday, April 3, 1962 and of the Special Meeting held on Thursday, April Si 1962, were approved as written. Mr. Morris Erdmann appeared before the Council and presented to them a pictorial history of the City of Clermont, and requested that it be kept in the Public Library. Chairman Boyd expressed the thanks and appreciation of the Council and of the citizens of Clermont for such a presentation. Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the Streets Committee, reported that Superintendent Sheldon was to meet in the next day or two with Mr. C.D. Hodson of Sunset Drive to work out details for construction of a settlin.g basin to take care of street drainage, on part of Mr. Hodson's property. Chairman Boyd also advised Superintendent Sheldon that, Mr. C. J. Linemann was preparing a scale that would give the amount of water that would drain into such catch basin duringaaheavy rain. j Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, reported that he had received a request for two additional light fixtures and four scoreboard lights at the Shuffleboard Courts. Motion by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. York and carried that the request be granted and the matter referred to the Parks Committee for action. Mr. Pool further announced that a meeting, for City Beautification would be held in the Florida Power Lounge on Wednesday, April 18th, and urged all:Council members to attend. Chairman Boyd reported that he noticed numerous oak trees throughout the City that were filled with mistletoe, and requested that the Parks Committee investigate this matter and secure an estimate of cost for the removal of such mistletoe and report back to the Council. Mr. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, reported that Mr. Sheldon was still working on the mapping of the City "s water distribution system, and 'that it would be completed in the very near future. Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Lake County League of Municipalities wherein they announced their monthly meeting to be held in Eustis on Wednesday, April 18th at 6:30 P. M. and invited the Council members to attend. ~ Clerk Johnson read letters from Charles Driggs, Jr. and Hullian D. Cotton, wherein they were applying for th~ life guard position at the Jaycee Beach this summer. The matter was referred to the Pa~ks Committee for their investigation and recommendations. Clerk Johnson advised the Council that the Clermont Menls Garden Club had agreed to supervise the planting of flowers and shrubs in the new cemetery addition, and that such plant- ings would be started in the very near future. Clerk Johnson inquired of the Council if it was their desire to have Hunnicutt and Associates, Appraisers for-the City ~ of Clermont, re-check appraisals of the business section of Clermont (7th and 8th Streets between Minneola and Montrose Streets, and Minneola and Montrose Streets between 7th and 8th), and grove property that the assessments had been lowered on, due to damage after the freeze of 1957. It was the unanimous concensus of the Council that these properties be re-checked by Hunnicutt. Mr. Pool recommended that floral plants and a general beautification of the City Ball Park and Kehlor Park be authorized for immediate start. Chairman Boyd requested that the Parks Committee obtain a definite pland and estimate of the cost of such a project and report back to the Council at the next meet- ing, for action. ' Motion by Mr. Bishop, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that the meeting be adjourned until Friday, April 20, 1962. A. ~
