A regular meeting of the city Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the city hall, Wednesday, November
7, 1956. The meeting was called to order by Council
Chairman Turville at 7:30 P. 1"1. with all members present.
Others present were Fiayor Boyd, .::>upt, Sheldon, City attorney
Horse, Don Bruno, O. H. Keene, :Nr. Grafton and two other
representatives of Gulf Oil Company, E. C. Jaclfson, James
Freeman and representatives of the press.
The minutes of the meeting held October 16, 1956, were
read and approved.
E. C. Jackson, ~ames Freeman and Don Bruno each spoke to
the Council concerning certain parts of the Electrical
code of the city which they thought should be changed.
Chairman Turville called a special meeting of the City
Council and the Electrical Board to meet with Nr. Bruno,
f"lr. Jackson and J\jr. Preeman and discuss thRse several matters
wdth them. The meeting was called for Monday, November 12,
1956, at vhe city hall.
O. H. Keene spoke to the Council relative to obtaining
certain properties from the city.~ The properties in question
being that strip of land between Lake Shore Drive and lake
Winioa and between Lime street (now Lake Shore drive) and
the canal. hr. Keene was inst~ucted to have the properties
surveyed and then make his proposition to the council.
Mr. Grafton spoke to the council relative to rental on
the filling station, owned by the city, at the corner of
Minneola Avenue and eighth street. Mr. Grafton made the city
1:;nc.ofifer of 100.00 in full sett lement of any rent due the
ci~y by said Gulf Oil Company or Mr. Grafton.
Motion was made by Grant, seconded by Meeker and carried
that the city accept the offer of Mr. Grafton with the
stipulation that Hr. Grafton furnish the city with a
complete list of all equipment, tools, or supplies owned
by said Gulf Oi~~~ompany.
The Council went on record in favor of leasing the 3ervice
station at the corner of Minneola Avenue and Eight street
to any Oil Company or distributor at a rental of .Ol~
per gallon for gassoline sold with a guarantee of thirty
dollars per month; it being understooQ,-however that the
location is to be used for a service station only at
the stated t'ental.
Mr. Jensen report1~g for the ~ater Committee reported
that it was his opinion that certain changes should be
made in the Water Rate ordinance and that it was his opinion
further that duplexes should be considered as a residence
with an apartment and not two separate houses. Mr. Meeker
and Mr. Grant aggeed with Mr. Jensen's opinion. Mr. Turville
and Mr. Beals did not agree. Chairman Turville appointed
a committee consisting of himself, Mr. Beals and Mr. Jensen
to give the matter further study and to make recommendations
to the Counc il.

J1r. Sheldon stated that the f1Hospitalll signs had been
ordered and would be placed at the hospital aa soon as they
arrived.
Hayor Boyd stated that Police chief Clark was slightly
ill and that he, Hayor Boyd, was submitt ing the monthly
report of the Police Department. The report was given,
accepted and ordered filed.
Hot ion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that
tax statement number 1684, for 1956 taxs be canceled
as it had been assessed through error.
Motion was made by Meeker, seconded by Beals and carried that
Supt. Sheldon be authorized an air compressor and tree
pruning attachement from Pounds l''lotor Company at a cost of
~~72ill. 30 .

J'V1r. Sheldon stated that \-Jatson Grove service desired to
purchase water from the city for citrms spraying.
The matter was referred to the Special Water Rates
Committee appointed by Chairman Turville.
Bids for the construction of three shuffle courts were
opened and read.
Motion was made by ~eeker, seconded by Grant and carried that
the bid of $871.50 submitted by Mr. Robert Nidy of
\.rinter Park be accepted and that ]\Ir. Nidy be authorized
to proceed with the construction as soon as possible.
Mr. Jensen offered a Resolution pertaining to a request
to the Civil Aeronautics Boad for Airline Passenger
service to and from Leesburg. The moti'bn was seconded
by Hr. Grant and upon roll call vote unanamously carried.
A copy of the Resolution appears immediately following
these minutes.
Clerk Johnson read a lett er from the Clermont Woman's Club
and the Clermont Garden Club requesting that the city pass
an Ordinance whereby the city of Clermont could order c' ..: ~.i1
property,within the city, to be properly cleaned and cleared
of Grass, weeds, trash and other refuse, and that in the
event the owner of the property did not heed the order
the city could then proceed with having the property cleaned
and take a lien upon the property for the amount of the
cost.
Motion was made by Beals, seconded by Grant and carried
that Mayor Boyd be instructed to include in his proclamation
for city election that a referendum be held concerning the
above stated request.
Hot ion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that
the city clerk be authorized to sell to Grant Thompson
lots 4, 6, 8 & 10; less the South 12~1 of lot 10, all in
Block 109; and all of lots 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6, Block 136A
All in Sunset Park, at a price of ~~3,273.34.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant that bills be paid.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Jensen and carried that
Cl~rk Johnson be authorized to allow any, and all, Widows
or Disability exemptions on city taxes when proof is
offered that Lake County has granted such exemptions.
Notion by Meeker, seconded by me,n:seYj, t1.hd carried that
Clerk Johnson be authorized to 'cor,rect any, and all,
errors that might exist in the 1956~tax roll due to
errors in calculations.

Mo~ion by Beals, seconded by Meeker and carried that
1956 tax statement number 395, in the amount of
~7.21 be canceled as same had been assessed through
error.
Motion by Grant, seconded by Jensen and carried that
tax statement number ;13, for 1956 taxes, be reduced
from $24.81 to $7.04, as a house which had been removed
was in~luded in the valuation of the property.
Motion by Beals, seconded by Jensen that the meeting
adjourn to an executive session.

Motion was made by Beals, seconded by Grant and carried
that effective November 1, 1956 wages and salaries
paid by the city of Clermont be increased as follows:
Regular wages from 1.00 to 1.10 per hour
Machine operators from 1.00 to 1.20 per hour
Supt. from 70.00 to 75.00 weekley
Police Chief from 275.00 to :300.00 monthly
Police patrolmen from 250.00 to 275.00 monthly
Radio operator from 200.00 to 210.00 monthly
City Clerk from :375.00 to 400.00 monthly

The regularly scheduled council meeting of the city of
Cl rmont was called to order by Councilman chairman
Turville at 7:;0 P. M. Tuesday, November 6, 1956.

A quorum was not present and Cha~rman Turville adjourned
the meeting until Wednesday evening at 7:;0 P. M.
