A Regular meeting of the city Council of the City of Clermont
was held at the city hall Tuesday, October 2nd, 1956.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harold Turville
at 7:30 P. M. with all members present with the exception of
Mr. Harley Beals. Others present were Mayor Boyd, City attorney
Morse, Supt. Sheldon, Mr. Howard Mooney, Mr. Max Berry, Mr.
James McDonald and Mr. M. E. Keach (box 1084, Lake Alfred, Fla.),
and Mr. Glen Middleton.
The reading of the minutes of the meeting held September 18,
1956 were postponed until the next meeting.
Mr. Glen Middleton requested approval by the council of
Middleton Park, a proposed subdivision in the city of Clermont.
Inasmuch as the streets had not been paved in the proposed
subdivision and as such paving is required before approval
by the city, Mr. Middleton deposited his check in the amount
of $1,500.00 with the city as a guarantee that the streets
would be paved and curbed according to city of Clermont specifications.
Motion was made by Jensen, seconded my Meeker and carried that
the Mayor and City Clerk De directed to properl~ executed the
proposed plat of Middleton Park as official approval by the city.
Mr. James McDonald appeared before the council to request permission
to construct and operate a bus depot and a used car lot on lot 4,
block Ill, Sunset Park. Mr. McDonald submitted a petetion of a
number of interested property owners in that area agreeing to Mr.
McDona1ds's request. Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. W. H.
McQuistion, chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, wherein it
was statedd that the Board had considered Mr. McDona1ds request
and that they had voted four to one as having no objection to his
request. Clerk Johnson also read a letter from certain property
owners in the effected area seriously protesting any changing of
the Zoning or the allowing of a bus depot or used car lot in that
area.

Motion by Meeker, seconded by Jensen and carried that inasmuch
as it appeared that the majority of the property owners in the
area in question did not o~ject to a bus depot and used car lot,
and inasmuch as the Zoning Board of appeals found no objection
to Mr. McDonald's request, that the Building Committee De directed
to issue a permit to Mr. McDonald' for the construction of a
buil~igg to be used a a bus depot and sheds to be used for the
display of used cars.
o Motion by Meeker, seconded by Jensen and carried th t the Zoning
: Board of appeals be requested to act as a Zoning Board and to make
a review of the Zoning in the area of 10th street from Desoto
to Highway 50, and sorrounding area and to make recommendations
to the council relative to any changes they deem to the best
interest of the city.
Mr. M. E. Keech made an offer to the council that he would
paint "Clermont" on the Water tank, located in the eastern part
of the city, on three sides for a price of $135.00.
Mr. Keeche was informed that the matter would be considered and
that he would be advised if the dity decided to have the job done.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that city attorney
Morse be directed to prepare an ordinance closing DeSoto street
from 12th street to the Western city limits of the city and to
prepare te necessary deeds reverting the street to abutting property
Owners.
Motion by Jensen, seconded by Meeker and carried that South Lake
Water Ways club De authorized to construct and locate a Boat
ramp on the shore of lake Minneo1a, between third and fourth streets.

Clerk Johnson read a letter from Boykin and Elliott wherein
said Boykin and Elliott agreed to remove all houses, trash and
refuse and to clean and grade lots 4 to 7, block 117, Jo}mson's
replat, and to accept the salvage from the opermtion as full
~ayment for their services.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that the proposition
submitted by Boykin and Elliott be accepted with the understanding
that Boykin and Elliott furnish the city with a certification of
insurance relieving the city of all liability.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that the clerk
be authorized to offer for sale at a price of $1,300.00, that
piece of property lying between the Atlantic Coast Line R7.ai1 Road
and the old Groveland road, or 12th street, and North of Lake Shore
Drive; it being understood that the city is to have the full use
of the property for the next four months, that the city will
furnish a warranty deed only and that Watson Grove Service be
given the refusal of the property before it is offered elsewehere.
Mayor Boyd.,,~ubmitted the Police chief's monthly report. The report
was accept*d and ordered filed.
Mayor Boyd discussed certain changes in the local Electrical
Cdde and the possibility of bringing all city ordinances up to date.
Motion Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried that Clerk Johnson
be instructed to adjuBu the water account on Mr. Preston Maynard's
apartments in the Lincoln Park area for the month of Aggust. The
Adjustment is that August be an average of the following and
preceeding month.
Motion by Meeker, se onded by Grant and carried that starting with
the month of October that in all cases where additional water
charges of $3.50 per month are made for additional living units
that each charge so made shall be intitled to 2,000 ga1mnn8 of free
water.
City attorney Morse was directed to advise Mr. Grant Thompson
that his contract for the purchase of certain city lots had
expired.
Motion by Gr~nt, seconded .y Jensen and carried that the bills
be paid.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Jensen that meeting adjourn.
