Adjourned Meeting
An adjourned meeting of the City Council, City of Clermont, was
called to order by Vice Chairman Harold Turville at 7:30 p.m., April
17, 1956. As a quorum was not present the meeting was adjourned to
April 24, 1956, at 7:30 p.m.
The adjourned meeting of the City Council, City of Clermont, was
called to order by Vice Chairman Harold Turville at 7:30 p.m., April
24, 1956. Councilmen present were Turville, Meeker and Beals. Mr.
Grant came in at about 8:30. Others present were Mayor Boyd, Mr. E.
T. Brantly, Forrest Colegrove, Principal Williams, Attorney Morse,
Mr. Olivenbaum and Mro Clover.
The minutes of the meeting held April 3, 1956 were read and approved.
Mr. Olivenbaum, representing the Grace Baptist Church, requested
that the city post some manner of safety signs to govern the traffic
at the Baptist Churcho Mr. Olivenbaum was assured that the Streets
Committee would give this matter immediate attention.
Mr. Williams, principal of the colored school, spoke to the Council
regarding some financial assistance from the city relative to a
summer recreational program for colored children. Mr. Williams was
informed that the matter would be referred to the Parks Committee
and they would determine what assistance could be given and that he
would be so informed.
Mr. Turville, Vice Chairman of the Council, appointed Mayor Boyd and
Superintendent Sheldon to meet with the Building Committee and Mr.
Brantly and Mr. Colegrove to consider and recommend changes in the
city's electrical code.
Mr. Meeker, Chairman of the Streets Committee, reported that city
crews were now in the process of sand-sealing or re-surfacing cer-
tain city streets.
Mr. Sheldon reported that the water pump and pressure tank had been
installed on Grand Highway and would be in operation within a few days.
Mr. Beals moved that the city purchase two fire extinguishers for
South Lake Memorial Hospital at a total cost of $22.16. Motion
seconded by Mr. ~~#}~Afd carried.
Mr. Turville, Sidewalks Committee chairman, reported that in order
to repair the sidewalk at Third and Minneola it would be necessary
to remove one large oak tree. After some discussion it was decided
to look into the matter further to see if it would be possible to
save the tree.
Mr. Clover spoke to the Council with regards to the purchase, by the
cityp of a street sweeper. Mayor Boyd strongly recommended that the
city purchase or rent the sweeper and that it be put into immediate
operation. None of the Council members were opposed to the purchase
of the sweeper provided that extra funds for its purchase could be
located. However, they were opposed to taking these funds from some
budgeted item or deficit spending. Motion made by Grant, seconded
by Beals and carried, that the matter be tabled.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried, that Superintendent
Sheldon be authorized to attend the Fire College.
Clerk Johnson read a letter signed by ten property owners protesting
the unsightly, unsafe and unsanitary condition of the property owned
by Mrs. Edith Traschel. Mayor Boyd stated that Mrs. Traschel had
been notified to correct this situation. The Council instructed
Mayor Boyd to have city crews properly clean this property and to
charge the expenses of such cleaning against the property in the event
that Mrs. Traschel had not done the job in the alloted time.
Motion tiy Beals, seconded by Grant and carried, that the police officers
be paid for additional time worked by them on Saturday nights, at
their regualr pay.

Motion by Grant, seconded by Meeker and carried, that Clerk Johnson
issue a check in the amount of $6.eO to Julian A. Blake, Clerk of
the UoS. District Court.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Grant and carried, that a bill in the
amount of $99.04 to Advanced Electric Co. be paid and charged to the
Youth Center project.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. W. M. Johnson wherein Mr. Johnson
requested a hearing before the Council with regard to the revocation
of his Electrical Occupation license. Vice Chairman Turville set
the hearing for 7:)0 p.m., Friday evening.
Motion by Beals, seconded by Grant and carried, that meeting be ad-
journed to an Executive session.

CITY OF CLERMONT
NOTICE is hereby given that the Registration Books
of the City of Clermont will be open on April 20, 1956
for the registration of voters who wish to participate
in the Special Election of the City of Clermont to be
held on Tuesday, May 22, 1956, and such books will be
open to and including May 10, 1956, during the reasonable
business hours of each business day~
It is not necessary for persons who are already
registered to register again, but attention is called to
the fact that registration in the County Registration Books
does not qualify a voter to participate in the Special
Election in the City of Clermont~
