Regular Meeting

A regular meeting of the City Council of the city of Clermont
was held at the city hall Tuesday, February 14, 1956.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Council
President E. G. Winston with all Council members present.
Others present were Mayor Boyd, City attorney Morse, Supt.
Sheldon, Policeman Parker, Mr. Don Bruno, Mr. Howard Doland,
Mr. Preston Maynard and Mr. O. H. Keene.
The minutes of the meeting held January 17, 1956, were read
and approved as read.
Mr. DOland, representing Watson Grove Service, requested
that the Council give consideration to the sale of a small
piece of property adjacents to the present holdings of Watson
Grove Service. After considerable discussion regarding the
matter Mr. Doland was informed that be fore the city could
give him a definate answer it would first be necessary for
them to determine if they could purchase a piece of property
lying North of Clermont Builders Supply Co. Clerk Johnson
was instructed to determine at what price the property North
of Clermont Builders supply could be purchased by the city.
Mr. Bruno discussed parking lots, off street parking and
directional signs with the Council. The discussion of these
matters was with respect to the proposed shopping center
on highway 27 and South of highway 50.
Mr. Keene, representing Mr. Dixon, requested that the Council
consider selling to Mr. Dixon that property lying North or
NorthWest of Lake Shore drive and in front of the Dixon
property. Mr. Keene was informed that it would first be
necessary for the city to determine if they had title to
the property in question and if they did they would give
the matter further consideration.
Mr. MJlYnard appeared before the council regarding the
Paving of King street and a part of Drew street. Mr.
Maynard was informed that estimates of the cost of such
paving would be made sometime this week and that he would
be informed of such estimates as soon as possible.
Mr. Winston, reporting for the water Committee stated
that the installation of two altitute valves would be made
as soon as connection stubs could be obtained.
Mr. Beals, reporting for the Sanitation Committee reported
that an inspection had been made of certain properties in
the city and that it had been found that garbage was being
burried orburned in violation of city health ordinances.
Mr. Beals further reported that the violators had been
instructed to correct the situation.

Mr. Beals, reporting for the Special Committee for the
purchase of cemetary property, reported that Mr. Bauerle
had been contacted and that Mr. Baruerle had agreed to
sell the property under consideration for $5,500.00,
payable $~OO.OO in cash and the balance at $1,100.00
per year with the unpaid balance bearing 5% interest.
After discussion it was decided that inasmuch as they
city had certain unbudged funds received from the sale
of city lots that possibly it would be to the best interest
of the city to pay a larger down payment and thereby eliminate
the interest. It was also decided that' it would be best
to have the property surveyed in order to determine just
how much property was being offered the city.
Motion was made by Turville, Seconded by Meeker and
carried that the property in question be surveyed and that
it be determined the larmest amount which the city would be
able to pay down on the purcitase price.
Mayor Boyd read the Police Chief report for January.
The same was accepted, and ordered filed.

Motion was made by Grant, seconded by Meeker and carried
that Supt. Sheldon be authorized to purchase 100 feet of
twelve inch drain pipe to be used as needed.
Mr. Grant, reporting for the Parks Committee, stated that
he had been requested to investigate the possibility of
additional shuffle boards at Kehlor park. He further stated
that he had looked in to the matter and found that one
Court should be replaced and that there was rooms for two
additional courts. Mr. Grant estimated that the total cost
would approximate $1,500.00. Mr. Grant did not make any
recommendations and no action was taken.
Mr. Turville suggested that the Council give consideration
to the appointment of aertain members of the Council and
the Mayor as a Police Commissio~ and that the matter be taken
up at the next meeting.
Motion was made by Turville, seconded by Meeker and carried
that the city purchase four best grade tires for the police
car.
The matter of leases on the buildings owned by the city
came up for dsicussion and attorney Morse was instructed
to redraw the leases with a nin~-day cancelation clause.
The matter of Sun Chevrolet Company using city owned property
for the p~king of their trucks was discussed and the Committee
on Off-Street parking was instructed to come to some
agreement with said Sun Chevrolet Company.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Sheppard & Sheppard,
auditors, wherein said Sheppard and Shetpard agreed to
do the auditing for the city for the fiscal year 1956
at a price not to exceed $700.00.
Motion was made by Grant, seconded by Turville and carried
that the firm of Sheppard & Sheppard be engaged as city
auditors for the fiscal year 1956.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the State Board of Health
regarding the extension of water lines without approval
by said State Board of Health.
Clerk Johnson read a report of operations and a financial
report from Cooper Memorial Association.
Mot ion was made by Grant, seconded by Beals and carried
that the Clerk be authorized to pay to Cooper Memorial
library the amount of JI,OOO.OO as budgeted.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Beals and carried that
Bills be paid.
Motion by Grant, seconded by Meeker that the city purchase
two car loads of lime rock to be used on Grand Highway.
Motion carried.
Mr. Turvllle, chairman of the Sidewalks Committee was
directed to secure prices on the construction of a side
walk from the city hall to the hospital.

Mr. Meeker requested an executive session of the Council.
Motion Meeker, seconded Grant that meeting adjourn.
