Regularly Adjourned Meeting
A regularly adjourned meeting of the city Council of the city of
Clermont was held at the city hall, Tuesday, December 20, 1955.
The meeting was called to order at 7:)0 P. M. with the following
Council members present: Winston, Konsler and Olivenbaum. Absent:
Beals. Mr. Grant came in later in the meeting. Others present
~.~re Mayor Boyd and Mr. Preston Maynard.
The minutes of the meetings held December 6, December 12, and
December 1), all in 1955, were read and approved.
Mr. Preston Maynard presented a petetion signed by himself, Earl
Craig, Mary Sherry, Albert Nolze and Arthur Schelb, requesting that
the city open and clay that portion of Minneola Avenue known as
King street and that portion of Drew street from Pitt street running
South to that portion of Drew street now paved. The petetion further
agreed that the petetioners would pay their proportionate share of
the costs of said work.
Mr. Maynard was informed that the Council did not look with favor
on the claying of any streets but that an estimate would be made
of the cost for the paving, or hard-topping, the streets in question
and that he an all others concerned would be advised as soon as
possible.
Mayor Boyd reported that he had contacted Mr. Slack, local manager
of Publix, and that they had agreed that the best entrance to the
Pmblix employee parking lot would be from the Publix customer parking
lot.
Motion was made by Konsler, seconded by Olivenbaum, and carried
that city attorney Morse be directed to prepare an amendment to
Chapter XXIV, Section 5, of the Revised General Ordinances of the
city, whereby when, in the opinio~ of the Council, it is necessary
that city sidewalks be repared that it be the responsability of the
city to make such repairs at its expense.
Certain parts of the building code were discussed and it was decided
that no change s were nece s sary .
Mayor Boyd recommended that certain Ordinance s be amended whereby
the Mayor would be permitted to proclaim that all dogs within the
city limits be penned, or leased, during certain periods of the
year in order that the Police department might better discover and
capture stray dogs. There was some discussion as to the matter
of the legality of such an ordinance and it was decided not to take
any act ion on the matter at thi s time.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Grant, and carried, that the city
have a street light installed on Third street, halfWay between
Montrose Street and Minneola Avenue.
Clerk Johnson informed the Council that Jack Johnson had made
application for a beer license to operate in a building located
between Clermont Builders Supply and lake Minneola. Permission refused.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Olivenbaum, and carried, that Supt.
Sheldon be directed to proceed with the widening of the pavement on
Minneola avenue, from Fifth street to Fourth street, and that such
width increase be made by adding approximately 28' of paving to the
North side of the existing paving.
CI rk Johnson was instructed to remove from the market those lots
owned by the city in Blocks 14 and 21, between Magnolia and Seminole
street s.
Motion by Grant, seconded by Olivenbaum that meeting adjo~rn.
