Regularly Adjourned Meeting
I
An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the city hall September 20, 1955.
The meeting was called to order by Council President, E. G.
Winston at 7:30 P. M. with all Council members present.
Others present were Mayor Boyd, Supt. Sheldon, Fireman Fullwood,
City attorney Morse and geo~, -SiBl.
The minutes of the meeting held September 6, 1955, were read and
approved as read.

Mr. Nagel stated that it was necessary to add additional drains
at South lake Memorial Hospital in order to drain surplus water
from the driveways and grounds and that the Hospital Board had
ordered the necessary drainage pipe and that said Hospital Board
would very much appreciate it if the city would dig the necessary
ditches and lay the pipe without cost.
Motion was made by Mr. Kons1er, seconded by Mr. Grant, and
carrieq, that city crews dig the necessary ditches and lay the
drainage pipe for South Lake Memorial Hospital with out cost
to said Hospital.
Mayor Boyd[ stated that the Welfare league had requested permission
to "rope off" a part of montrose street, beween seventh and eighth
streets, during their annual carnival.
Motion was made by Mr. 01ivenbaum, seconded by Mr. Bea1, and
carried that the Welfare league be allowed to close that part
of Montrose street, as requested, and that the Police Department
"rop~!Ioffn the required section for them.
Motion was made by Mr. Bea1 that the city pass a utility tax
of 10%, with a 1.00 maximum, to take effect November 1st, and
that the proceeds from such tax be divided as follows: 25%
for recreation, 25% for South Lake Memorial Hospital, 25%
for Publicity and 25% to go in to the General fund.
There was no second to the motion.
Mayor Boyd recommended that the city use the approximately
$S,OOO.OO which it now has on hand, received from the sale of
city owned lots, for an immediate addition to the community
building. The matter was discussed but do definate action
taken.
The matter of Parking meter enforcement was discussed and all
were in agreement that police officers should extend complete
courtesy to the general public at all times.
Clerk Johnson presented a bill from South ~ke Construction
Company for the construction of concrete base for the new
water tank. The matter was referred to the V'iater Committe
with instructions to inspect the work and to advise the clerk
'what part of the bill is to be paid at this time.
Clerk Johnson informed the Council that Mr. Dormer would like
for the city to place a price on lot 11, Block 31, as he was
interested in purchasing sarne. Clerk Johnson was instructed
to inform Mr. Dormer that the appaisa1s committee would place
a price on the lot and that he would be informed later.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Emanuel Danese, Realtor of
Jac~sonvi1le, wherein Mr. Danese made an offer of $8,000.00
for lots 9-11-13-15-16-17-18 & 19, Block 89.
Clerk Johnson Vas instructed to inform Mr. Danese that the
city had placed a price of $12,500.00 on the property in
question and that they did not feel disposed to reduce the
price at this time, and that in any event if the price should
be reduced that the new price would have to be advertised and
offered to the general public.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. James McDonald, Chairman
of the Building Committee of the American legion, wherein Mr.
McDonald requested that the city donate, or sell at a reasonable
price, property on which a legion building could be erected.

Clerk Johnson was instructed to inform Mr. M~Dona1d that the
city did not have any property available on which such a building
might be erected.
Motion by !:ons1er, seconded by Olivenbaum and carried that
meeting adjourn until Monday evening, September 26, 1955,
at 7: 30 P. M.
