REGULAR MEETING
A Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the City Hall, Tuesday, September
6, 1955.

The meeting was called to order by Council President,
E. G. Winston, at 7:30 P. M. with all members be~
present. Others present were Mayor Boyd, City attorIlJlY
Morse, Supt. Sheldon, Police Chief Clark, Fireman Fulnood,
Mr. Glen Middleton, Mr. Jerry Egan, Mr. Ralph Besekee, Mr.
Fred Wolfe, Mr. Mann, Mr. Eugene Cantwell, Mr. Oakley Seaver
and. Mr. Howard Young.
The minutes of the meetings held August 16, 1955, August
25, 1955, and August 29, 1955 were read and approved as read.
Mr. Middleton, represeniang the Chamber of Commerce, read
a letter to the Council, wherein the Chamber made certain
recommendations to the Council and requested that the city
levy a 10,% utilIty tax, with a maximum tax of 1.00, and that
twenty five percent of such tax collected to be used for
publicity purposes with the Chamber of Commerce handling
said publicity. After considerable discussion motion was
made by Mr. Beals that the city levy a ten percent utility
tax, with a maximum tax of 1.00, to be put in to effect
November 1st. The motion was seconded by Mr. Konsler and
after further discussion and a roll call vote the ayes were
Beals and Konsler. Nays were Grant, Olivenbaum and Mr.
Winston. The motion failed. Mr. Grant, Mr. Olivenbaum and
Mr. Winston each stated that they wished it to be a matter
of record that they were in no way opposed to the program
as outlined by the Chamber of Commerce and that their
proposals would certainly be given further careful consideration.
However, they did not care to vote for a utility tax until
they had time to go in to the matter fully and carefully and.
that it would also be necessary to do fur ther work on the
next fiscal years budget before they could determine the
amount of additional revenue needed.
Mrs. Caroline Stanley, Tax assessor of the city, appeared
before the council and presented them with a list of proposed
valuation changes for the tax roll. Motion was made by Mr.
Konsler, seconded by Mr. Grant and. carried that the changes
be made as recommended by Mrs. Stanley.
Motion By Konsler, seconded by Olivenbaum and carried that
the members of the City Council of the City of Clermont
sit as a Board of Equilization on Thursday evening, Sept.
22, 1955 at 7:30 P. M.

Motion was made by Mr. Grant, seconded by Mr. Konsler
and carried that the city engage Mr. Stephen Zelazo as
a member of a three man Board of appraisers to appraise
certain city owned property and also certain property owned
by Mr. Bauerle. It being understood that Mr. Bauerle is
also to appoint a member of the committee and that those
two members so appointed are to appoint a third and. that
the findtlngs of such appaisal Committee are to serve as
a basis for further discussion between the city and Mr. Bauerle
regarding the purchase, or trading, of certain property.
Mayor Boyd submitted several questions to the Council
relative to the operation of Parking meters.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mrs. Mary Wheeler, relative
to the city removing two palm trees from the park way in
front of her property.
Motion was made by Mr. Grant, seconded by Mr. Konsler, that
Supt. Sheldon be instructed to investigate the matter and
that if the trees are on City property and. in anyway dangerous
to the general community that same are to be removed. Mr.
Sheldon was further instructed to have the Oleander bushes
in front of Mrs. Siegel's removed or pruned.

Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mrs. Collette, relative
to the condition of property owned my Mr. O'Neal.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to write to Mr. O'Neal
and ask him to please correct this condition.
Clerk Johnson read a note from Mr. McCaffrey, wherein
Mr. McCaffrey stated that an Occupational license of $20.00
was entirely too high for the Palm Shoe Company, and
requested that said Palm Shoe Company be placed in a
different classification.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to inform Mr. McCaffrey that
it was not possible to place the business in a.njJ other
classification.
The Police Chief's report was read ,accepted and order
filed.
Police Chief Clark called the Council's attention to the
fact that numerous "Blind Corners n existed in the city
due to excessive growth of shrubery. The matter was
referred to Mayor Boyd for action.
Motion was made by Mr. Olivenbaum, seconded by Mr.
Konsler and carried that Supt. Sheldon be authorized to
removed the necessary part of the curbing and to prepare
a driveway through one of the l'Islandsn on East avenue,
lying West of the New School building.
Motion By Grant, seconded by Olivenbaum and carried that
bills be paid.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Grant and carried that
Supt. Sheldon proceed with the curbing and paving of Pine
Lane, it being understood that the curbing is to be on
the South side only.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Grant and carried that
the tax millage for the taxable year 1955 be set at five
and one half Cst> mills for bond debt service and ten and
one half CIOi> mills for general operations. This was a
roll call vote and unanamously carried.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Olivenbaum that meeting
adj ourn.
