REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting ef the City Council of the City of
Clermont waa held at the city hall, Tuesday, January
18, 1955.
The meeti~g was called tc order at 7:30 P.'M. by President
E. G. Winston with all member. present. Others present were
Mayor Bayd, City attGrney M$rae, Supt. Shelden, Fireman
Fullw~.d, G. H. Potter, Dr-. Rey Blanchard, Carl Wright,
and Mr. Jim Edwarda ~f Brodie and Edwards of Tampa.

The minutes of the meetings held January 4, 1955
and the tW0 meetings held January 6, 1955, were read
and approved as r~ad.
Mr. Potter, representing the Re"Breatien club, extended an
invitation to the MaYGr and City Council and their wive.
t. be the guest. of the Recreation Club at a dinner at the
Cemmunity building on February 18th, 1955 at 6:30 P. M.
Mr. Potter was thanked for the invitation and assured that
the dinner would be attended.

Dr. Roy Blanchard and Carl Wright appeared befere the
ceuncil with the request that the city provide an entrance
te lake Winona at the foot of Seminole or Magn6lia Streets.
Their request was supperted by a pepeti&n of heme owner.
in the Indian Hill section of the city.
Motion waa made by Konsler, secended by Olivenbaum that
the request and petetiQn be granted and that the city provide
an entrance to lake Win0na at the foot of Magnelia or
Seminole streets at whichever location appears to the city
to be moat desirable. Motion carried.

l~. Jim Edwards of Bredie & Edwards Radio Company, Tampa,
appeared before the council in an endeavor to secure the
maintenance contract for City of Clerment radios.
Mr. Edwards was informed that hie proposition would be
given consideration.
After SQme discussion and a repert from Chiarman Winston,
mctiGn was made by Konsler, seconded by Beales that the
city regrade and surface Bloxam street frem Minnehaha 'avenue
te Hook street and that the cost be equally divided between
the abutting property owners and the city, Buch divisien te
be ~ne third of the cost by the city and one third af the
c~st by the abutting property owners Gn each side of the .
.treet. Motion carried and Mr. Shelden was directed to proceed
with the grading and paving aa outlined.
The matter of the low area in the paving on fifth street in
front of H. R. Harper was discussed with the decisiQn that
nothing could be dene about the matter at this time.
Mr. Winston, reported that the Dixie Bridge and Tank company
and made an inspectien of the water tank and found same to be
in good condition.
Clerk Johnsen was instructed to write to Mr. Jack Sharp
ef Orlando and inform Mr. Sharp tho t the city wasintere8ted
in the purchase of a 50,000 gal. used water tank and would
like to lwve Mr. Sharp appear before the council and inform
them of anything which he might have to offer.
~~r. Beale reported that Mr. Ross Cantwell had offered the
use of lot. 12 & 13, Block 55 to t}~ city a8 a parking lot.
Mr. Beale moved that the city accept the gene~ou8 ~ffer
made by Mr. Cantwell and that a year to year lease with
a sixty day cancelation clause be executed by the City and
Mr. Cantwell with the compensation for said lease to be

Atterney Merse was directed to prepare the lease as
outlined.

Motion by Beale secended by Ollvenbaum that a year to year
lease with a sixty day cancelatiGn clause be executed by
the City and Gran-Harris Drug company on let 14 and the E23'
of 16, Bloak 80, with the compensati8n for said lease to be
the amQunt of the yearly city taxes. Metion carried.
Mr. Beale stated 'that he would make a rep0rt at the next
meeting with recommendations and cost estimates relative to
the old city dump.
President Winston Set up a Special Committee to be known
as the ,Committee on Alleys and Off Street Parking and
app.inted tl~ following as member8 with the first named
as chairman~ Grant, Olivenbaum and Winston.
May~r Boyd submitted the monthly pelice report which was
accepted and ordered filed.
The installation of Trafiic lights on Highway 50 was
again discussed but no actien was taken.
Motion Qy Olivenbaun, seconded by Konsler that the
Police Dept. be authorized to purchase supplies in the am~unt
of $60.71. Motion carried.
Motion by Kensler, seconded by Olivenbaum that the Police
Dept. be authorized to purchase two new cQta and thBee new
mattresses for the city jail and that the toilet be repaired
~r replaced in said city jail.
President Winsten read a letter from Mrs. Richard B. Stanley
wherein she requested permissiQn to purchase a steel filing eaul~2
for her use a city Tax ASBesser.
Metion was made by Beale, secended by O+ivenbaum and carried
that the matter be referred to President Winston.

Mayor stated that the Police Department had requested that
a Curfew law be put into effect. The matter was referred to
Mayer Beyd.
Mayor Beyd reported that the Flerida Power Corp. had set some
of their light poles in the sidewalks along Highway 50
where a whiteway is being installed, and recommended that
the city instruct the Florida Power CQrp. te meve the p0les.
After s~me discus8ien the matter was referred to the Street
Lighting and Sanitation Committee.
City attorney M~rse stated that he had prepared a new Lake
Frent lease on let 151 and the E!of 152, Clermont Heights
te R. A. Freeman and suggested that the new lease be executed
and that the $ld lease cQvering lot 151 enly, dated September
5, 1950 be canveled.
Motion was made by Olivenbaum, seconded by Beales that the new
Lease be executed and the eld lease canceled as recommended
by atternet Morse. Motion carried.
Supt. Shelden was directed to place twe; '~~~;)Dumping" 8igns
at the eld city dump.
Motion was made by Heale, 8ecended by Konsler that the city
invite those firms interested in selling Garbage Packer truck.

Mayer B$yd recommended that a price of $1,000.00 each be
placed on lets 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19, Block 89 and a price
of 500.00 each on lets 16 & 18, Bleck 89, and that said lots
be offered t. the general public.
After s.me discussion it was decided that the prices
rec.mmended by Mayer Boyd were entirely to. lew,
and met ion was made by Kensler, seconded by Grant th t
a price of 12,500.00 be placed en the lets and that they be
offered Gnly as a unit. Motien carried.
Metien by Olivenbaum, seconded by Beale that Mr. Carl Smith
and Mr. Kenneth Smith be given permission to locate a well
en their property and that the clerk be directed. to se inform
them.

house and pier. Clerk Johnsen was directed'te infermMr..Viti

and therefore the city ceuld net execute such a lease as 'r~q~~!t~d
Clerk Jehn.on read a letter frem Mr. Chas. Vance, wherein Mr. ,
Vance requested a Lake Frent lease en Crys,tal lake in front
of leta 2, 4 & 6, Bleck 68. Attorney Morse informed the Council
that they could net l~ase this preperty, as let 1,. Bleck 47
prejected te the lake and that therefore lots 2, 4 & 6 ef
Bleck 68 did net have any lake frontage. Clerk Jehna~n wa.

Clerk Jehnson read a letter from Mr. Ray Coon, wherein Mr.
Ceon atated that when and if the Community Building was meved
from it. present locatien he would like tG have a chance te
bid en it. Clerk Jehn.en waa instruc,ted te advise Mr. Coen
that when and if the building in question was effered fer sale
that it would be advertised for bids. .
Clerk Johnsen infer.med the Council that it was the epini.n
ef Mr. W. T. Nolan, the ex Mayer ef Minneola, that the Tewn of
Minne.la aheuld not be expected to pay the City of Clermont
for Fire Dept. 8ervices rendered on December 17, 1954, inasmuch
as the fire in questien was not within the limits ef the Town
of Minneela. The Council agreed that inasmuch as the call
fer a.sistance came from Minneola and stated that the Fire was
in Minneela, that t}~ Town ~f Minneola should be respensible,
and the Clerk was directed to .0 inferm Mr. Nolan.
Mr. Ray Gocm,a member of the Board ef Trustees ef the
Clermont Church ef Christ, requested permission t. l~cate a
3x5 sign at the intersectien of West Avenue and Highway 50.
. Clerk Jehns.n was instructed tc inform Mr. C..n that his
request was denied until 8uch time as the C~uncil decides the
size and type of signa which will be allowed f.or churche..
Motion by Olivenbaum, seconded by Kensler that the Clerk
notify A erican National FGod. that their sign located at the
intersectien or West avenue and highway 50 i. in vielation
ef city Ordinances and to please remove the sign without delay.
