ADJOURNED MEETING

A regularly adjourned meeting of the City Council of the
City of Clermont was held at the City hall, Tuesday, May
18, 1954.
The meeting was called to order by Council President, Arthur
George, at 7:30 P. M. with all members present. Others present
were Mayor Boyd, city attorney Morse, Supt Sheldon, Mrs. Arnett
and 1~s Berryman representing the Library association, and Mrs.
McCaffrey, Mrs. Millican, Miss Ramsey and Mr. McCaffrey.
The minutes of the meeting held May 6, 1954 Were read and
approved as read.
Mr. Ellis Konsler, Chairman of the Streets Committee, recommended
and moved that the City advertise for bids on the following
machinery: one used grader, one 600 gallon tar pot and one
spreader box for both cold mix and slag, at a total approximate
cost of $4,950.00, and that the city purchase materials and build
on to the rear of the barn sufficient space for the storage of
afore mentioned equipment at an approximate cost of $400.00.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Sickler and unanamously carried.
Mr. 01ivenbaum of the Laws and Auditing committee, called the
Councils attention to the fact that the volunteer firemen were
not amply covered with accident insurance.
Motion Was made by Konsler, seconded by Sickler, that the City
take out a Volunteer Fire Company Blanket accident policy at an
annual cost of $145.00. Motion carried.
After considerable discussion the Council recommended to Mayor
Boyd that he contact all members of the Volunteer Fire Dept,
and explain to them the dan~rs of xecessive speed and the
running of traffic lights when on the way to fires. All members
of the Council definately went on record as being opposed to
such practice. Mayor Boyd agreed that he would handle the matter.
M!Wor Boyd asked the Council if, under the terms of the lease,
the city was to maintain the building and grounds of the Womans
Club. Attorney Morse ruled that under the terms of the lease
all maintenance was to be duty of the Womans club and that the
City was not responsable. Clerk Johnson WaS instructed to inform
the Womans Club accordingly.
Mayor Boyd brought up the matter of damages to Grand Highway
by a tractoe, or Bulldozer, crossing over said Highway several
times. The equipment was the property of Fred L. Wolfe and the
work was being done for Mr. A. Bornstein. The amount of
damages was estimated at $100.00. Clerk Johnson was instructed
to forward Mr. Fred Wolfe a statement for said damages.

Supt. Sheldon was instructed to equip all traffic lights with
longer hoods and to install stronger bulbs where necessary.
Mayor Boyd brought up the matter of opening a new cemetary
due to the fact that the present cemetary contained very few
available lots.. The me. tter was referred to the Parks and
Cemetary Committee with ins~ructions to look into the matter
and report at a later meeting.
Mrs. Arnett, as a representative of the Cooper Memorial Library
association, that the dream of a library addition was now an
accomplished fact. She thanked the Council and other city
officials for their fine help and cooperation and extended each
of them, with the wives, to attend open house on June 1, 1954,
betwwen the hours of three to five and seven to nine.
Mr. George thanked Mrs. Arnett for the invitation and stated they
would make every effort to attend.
Mrs. Berryman gave a financial report on the construction of the
Library addition which was very informative and disclosed that
an excellant job had been done. The Council complimented Mrs..
Berryman and Mrs. Arnett on their fine work.

Motion was made by Winston, seconded by Konsler, that the
city proceed with the construction of an alley through blk.
81, on the rightofway already obtained and that offsets be
made where necessary. Motion carried.

Motion Sickler, seconded Konsler, that Tax statement number
1379, covering Persohal Property tax in the amount of 1.60
be struck from the roll as same had been assessed through error.
Motion carried.
Clerk Johnson eN<plained to the Council tha't . in 1946 the city. :.
had sold, and deeded, the same cemetary lot (11, blk A) to two
different parties, and that it was now necessary to endeavor
to purchase a cemetary lot in the same area to satisfy one of
the parties. Clerk Johnson was instructed to obtain prices
on available lots and report to the Parks and Cemetary Committee.
Clerk Johnson informed the Council that "Mr. William' Kern had
made apulication for duplicate Tax Sale Certificates as follows:
Tax Sale Certificate #72 for 1939 taxes on lots 10&11, Blk 4,
Sunset Heights, in the amount of 8.34, with P. K. Bronson
and R. E. Bronson as bondsmen for twice the amount of the certificate
and Tax Sale Certificate #46 for 1940 Taxes on lots 10&11, Blk 4,
Sunset Heights, in the amount of 5.21, with P. K. Bronson and R. E.
Bronson as bondsmen for twice the amount of the certificate.
Motion was made by Olivenbaum, seconded by Sickler and carried
that Mr. Kerns application be granted and that the Clerk issue
Duplicate Tax sale certificates.
Clerk Johnson was authorized to request bids from all local
licensed painters for the paint~ng of the inside of the city hall.
