Mr. George stated that Police chief Brooks had requested
that he make the following statements to the council in
his behalf: Tl'a t mayor Boyd had placed all members of the
police force on "swing shift" whereby it was necessary for the
police c~ief to serve the same number of hours and to serve
a "night shift" the same as the other men; that in his opinion
the police chief should be on duty during the day and not at
night; that in his opinion the dinity of the office of police
chief should carry sufficient consideration to eliminate him
from night duty; that he had discussed the matter with Mayor
Boyd but had been unable to obtain any satisfaction and was
therefor appealing to the council; that if the council did
not see fit to instruct the mayor to place the police chief
on day duty only, that he would then like to be removed from
the office of Chief and serve as a regular police officer.
.After considerable discussion it appeared to be the general
opinion that inasmuch as the Mayor was in charge of the
police force that the matter was in his hands and that
therefor~ the complaints and requests made by Police chief
Brooks would be tabled.
