An adjourned meeting of the city Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the city hall November 17, 1953.
The meeting was called to order by Council President,
Arthur George, at 7:30 P. M. with all Council members
present. Others being present were Mayor Higby, City
attorney Morse, City Supt. Sheldon, Mr. Roy Hicks and
Mr. Ed Morris.
The minutes of the meeting held November 3, 1953 were
read and approved.
Mr. Hicks and Mr. Morris, representing the Clermont
Shuffle Board Ass In, thanked the city for the new shuffle
boards constructed in Kellar park, and presented the city
with their check for fifty percent of the cost of said
shuffle boards.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Konsler, that the city
extend the existing sidewalk to the curb on Montrose street,
from Bowman & Brown building to Harper Motor Campany
on the North side and that the sidewalk in fron of the
Egan and Winston buildings on the South side be brought
in line with the existing sidewalks on each side. Motion
carried.
Clerk Johnson asked the Council if he should have the
deeds already received for the rightofway through block
81 placed on record, or if he should wait until all deeds
are obtained. Clerk Johnson was instructed to wait until
all deeds were obtained before recording' any of them.
}~r. Konsler reported that he had contacted Mr. K. L. Jack
Sharpe, of Orlando, with regard to installing the lights on
the water tower, and that Mr. Sharpe would attend the next
Council meeting. Mr. Konsler recommended, and moved, that
a street light be installed at the intersection of Minnehaha
Ave and Highway 27. The motion was seconded by Meeker and
carried.

Clerk Johnson presented a petition requesting a street
light in front of Cooper Memorial Library. The matter was
referred to Mr. Konsler with the request that he report
at the. next meeting with recommendations.
~ayor Higby reported that the police radio had been moved
into another room for better convenience during the illness
of Mr. Fullwood and that arrangements had been made with
Mr. Phillips to remain on for an additional two weeks.
Motion by Konsler, seconded by Meeker, that the city engage
a surveyor to make the necessary survey and maps of city
block 81 for the purpose of establishing the location of
the proposed alley rightofway. Motion carried.
Mr. Winston called the councils attention to the fact that
homes on Highlands avenue were obtaining building permits
for additions to their homes where said homes did not have
a set-back of twenty five feet from the front property line.
A general discussion followed with no partictular action being
taken.
Mr. Wipston requested that the city attorney proceed with the
obtaining of prbperty for the continuation of Chestnut street
through Blocks 88 & 89 and 100 & 101.
Motion by Winston that the Clerk be instructed to write
a letter to C. R. Shewey and request a map of the survey
made by him~sometime ago of said blocks 88,89,100 & 101.
The motion was seconded by Mr, Sickler and carried.
Motion by Winston, seconded by Konsler, that the expense
allowance of twenty-five dollars each for delegates to attend
the Florida Zoning commission convention at West Palm beach
be increased to fifty dollars per plrson, or a total of $100.00

Motion by Winston, seconded by Sickler that Mrs. Richard
B. Stanley be engaged as City Tax assessor at a salary of
one hundred and twenty five dollars monthly. Motion carried.
Mr. Winston called the councils attention to the fact that
grass was growing through the patches in the streets which
are being prepared for sand-sealing.
Mr. Winston moved that Supt. Sheldon be authorized tQ ,
purchase a grass, or weed, killer arid to use same on the <, .'.
grass in. city streets. Motion seconded by Kon!ler and .ca~~
Clerk Johnson read a proposed Resolution relative to "//~/"""
the city's dedicating certain lots to the South Lake I' .
Memorial Hospital. As there seemed to be some question
as to the Resolution covering the proper lots the matter
was referred to city attorney Morse for investigation.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Konsler that Mrs.
Irene Kersten be given a lease for that part of Lake
Minnehaha shore fronting on lot 52, Clermont Heights.
Metion carried.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Winston, that the taxes
assessed against 1/2 of lot 5, block 80, be struck from
the tax role as same had been assessed through error.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Winston, that Tax collector
Johnson be authorized to make the necessary changes on
tax assessments having Widows or Disability exemptions
whereby such exemptions would apply to debt service (5!)
tax as well as operational tax. Motion carried.
Motion by Meeker, seconded by Sickler that meeting adjourn.
