06-02-1953 Regular Meeting REGULAR MEETING ~ ,., A regular meeting of the city council of the 'city of Clermont was held at the city hall June 2, 1953. The meeting was called to order by council president Arthur George at 7:30 P. M. with all members present. Others present were Mayor Higby, city attorney Morse, Supt. Sheldon, Police Chief Brooks and Howard Young. The minutes of the 8.ddoar-nem8meen!ngemeld May 19, 1953 and the Special meetings held May 25 and May 29 1953 were read and approved. Chairman George requested the Strests Committee to investigate the cost of street name signs and to report at the next meeting. Attorney Morse reported a special act had been passed by the legislature and had become law whereby the city of Clermont would appoint a person to the office of tax assessor and that such office would no longer be elective. Mhairman George requested Mr. Winston to present a list of pipe requirements to complete the proposed "loop" in the water system and for utility tunnels 'Onder highway "50" at its intersections. Motion by Konsler, seconded by Sickler that the city of Clermont execute a Service and Maintenance contract with Southeast Communication Company, to become effective July 1st, 1953, and that the clerk advise Brodie-Edwards of Tampa that their services will not be needed after that date. Motion carried. Motion by Sickler, seconded by Winston that bills be paid. Motion carried. Motion by Meeker, seconded by Sickler, that Personal Property tax statement #1571, in the amount of $2.84, be canceled as same had been assessed through error. Motion carried. Motion by Konsler, seconded by Winston, that Personal Property tax statement #1580, in the amount of $2.37, be canceled as same had been assessed through error. Motion carried. Motion by Winston, seconded Konsler, Business Persohal property tax statement '1426, in the amount of 7.90 be canceled as the firm owing the tax were no longer in business, had moved from this city and that the' tax was uncollectable.
