Regular Adjourned meeting
A regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of -the City
of Clermont \vas held at the city hall, Septer.1ber 16, 1952.
The meeting was called to order by Council President, T. C.
Cork, Jr., at 7:30 P. II. \vith all Council members being
present., Others being present were Mayor Higby, Supt. "
Slleldon; Police Chief Brooks, Mr. J. B. Fullwood and Mr.
Brannon.
The minutes of the meetings held Septe~ber 2; and September
8, both 1952, were read and approved as read.
Upon the recommendation of Supt. Sheldon, motion was made
by George; seconded,by Meeker~ and carried, that all cemetary
lots now priced at f,~25.00 in t;he \~'hite Cemetary (Oak Hill
Cemetary) be raised to ~;50.00. .
Mayor Higby reported that he and members of the City Council
had made' a trip to Deland to confer w:i:th"!Ir. Wesley Sweat,
Division Engineer of the State Road Dept., relative to plans
for Hsbghway nUlnber 1150" through ~rmont.
Hayor Higby asked r..ir. Shelda:?f t/1he wa~d to reconnnend
anyone for the position ofArddio O~ol~tor. Mr. Sheldon stated
that he had been unable to find anyone up to the present time,
but that he ha9 several prospects and that he would endeavor
to located someone in the near future.
Motion by Winston, seconded by George that'the city
reemburse Mr. Meeker for the trip to f)eland, in the amount

Attorney Morse reported that it wasAlegal for the city to grant.
an exclusive Franchise to a Taxi Cab Company if they so desired,
but that in his opinion it would not be to the best interest of
thE! city. ITo action taken.
Mr. Brannon stated that it was his intention to have A IIGrand
Opening" for his new Store on September 27th., and that they would
have loud Speakers advertising the opening, that they would have
a draWing for prizes and that they would have a band, or Orchestr~.
if there was no objections, or unless same was prohibited by'city
Ordinance. Mr. Branon was informed that there uas no Ordinance
proh~biting his proposed program and that there was no
objecjdon.
r~. Brannon then asked about the progress of the proposed alley
through'~iliock 81. After considorable discussion rogarding this
subject Cm.mcil President Cork asked attorney Forse to please
investi~ated the matter and report back, to the Council that part
of the right-of-way which had been deeded to the city and the
remaining necessa:y part on which dee~s TIere noeded.
Motion by Winston, seconded my Meekor, that a survey be made
along the East and West center line of Block 81, City of
Clermont to determine the present prOfile of the various
lots, and that a drawing be made indicating the nece~sary
cuts and fills that need to be made when the alley is graded
thrOUgll the center of said Thmock 81. Motion carried.
Motion by Winston, seconded by George, that the bill , .
rendered by Ben Lager .for replacing the si~ewal~~ in front ~f

Clerk Johnson asked the Cowlcil for instructions
reGarding the collection of Occupational License
fees, and was instructed to entend tlw time limit
for collection through the month of October.
Clerk Johnson then asked the Council if it was their
desire to make any chanses in the' present Ordinance
relative to Occupational licenses, especually in respect
to that part of the ordinance dealing with Heal Esaste
Salesmen. Clerk Johnson was informed that the' ordinance
would not be chansed and that he was expected to collect
fees for Occupational licenses from Real Estate salesTIen
in the same manner as that applied in any other business
or profession.
Clerk . Johnson read a letter from Mr. !I. Fl. Bailey, whorein
Mr. Bailey complained of the amount Charged him for sidewalk
repairs and for the fact that he had not been notified that
such repairs were ,necessary. The Council instructed Clerk
Johnson to infor~ Mr. Bailey that he was expected to pay
the account as previously rendered.
Clerk Johnson read a Sample letter proposed by the Garden
Club relative to a "clean-up" carnpaisn in Clermont.. .
The proposed letter was to be written on City stationary,
and to be signed by the IEayor. Among other subjects the'
proposed letter stated that the city would clean and mow
lots for a nominal sum.; The council nembolPs w:'e!l'Jen<iefl,inately
~ppbsed to that part of the letter offering the services of
the city for lot cleaning~ and were also opposed to the
~s9 of City letterheads for the purpose. P,l~';lor Higby was
1A!lagreement with the Council regarding this subject, and
stated that he would see.the Officers of the WOMans Club
and make certain recommendations to them.
The Council took up the matter of reviewing'the assessment
rolls as submitted by Tax assessor Nagel at this time.
Upon montion by 1~0ker, seconded by'Perguson, and carried
