08-19-1952 Regular Meeting RegularAAdjourned Meeting. An adjournod meeting of the City Council of tho City of Clermont was 'held at the city hall, August 19, 1952 at 7:30 P. U. ~ ,.., The moeting was called to order by Council Presidont T. C. Cork, Jr. with all Council m0moors being prosent. Otliors being present woro Mayor Higby, Attorney ~orse; Supt~ Sheldon, PoliCe Chief Brooks., Tax Assessor Nagol; Mr. W. H. McQuistion and Mr. T. C. Cork. Sr. Tho minutes of the regular meeting held August 5, 1952 woro road by tho Clork and approved as read. PJr. licQuistion asked thrt the city 'havo tho benches in Kohlor Park ropairod and painted. Mr. Sheldon was roquested to take caro of Mr. UcQuistion's roquest'and seo that the benches were properly repaired and painted. , Mr.' Cork, Sr., ropresenting the American Fruit Growers, roquosted that the city open Codar stroot from 12th stroet to Minneola Lake drive, in ordor that the people ~ living in that section would have ~cess to thei~ property and would not have uo usa tho property of Amorican ruit Growers for that purpose. The matter of American Fruit ~omp~~s request was reforred ,to the stro.,ts COInmitteo and I~ir. ~oldon. Uotion By George, Seconded by lieokor, that the city obtain two separate bids for pump houso construction; one for the electrical installations and one for pump house construction. Motion Carried. Clork Johnson was instructed to contact Mr. Willaim Crowe, of Black Laboratorios, and requost that they furnish us with tho proper plans and spacifivations for tho pumphouse. Mr. Georgo reportod that the citrus troes on Chestnut street, East of Fiffth stroot, which had boen obstructing the view of motorist hadboen proporly prunod and that tho situation was correc ted. Clerk Johnson was instructod to contact Mr. Forest Coldgrove and request that ~lorida Power Corporation have thoir ongineors mako a survoy of cortain parts of tho city'with gegards tho cost of an improved street lighting system. ~ .,., Mayor Higby reported that he had been unable to secure anyone to fill the vacancy on tho Police force, but that ho would continue in the attempt. Tax assessor lIagel asked tho Council for thoir opinions as to a "Blanket" increase in city property vaulations. After oonsidornh'L discussion in which thoro appoared to be a wide 'difference of opinion r~. Nagel was informed that the Council did not favor any "ovor-all" increase in valuations and that they did not favor any incroase in Household Personal Property valuations. Motion by Winston, that tho city make provisions in next . years budget for the purchase of a'garbage disposal truck. There was no second to this motion. Motion' by George, second by Winston, that the am~unt of ~2,250.00 included in tho budget, be paid to the Chamber of Commerce. liotiion ,carried. Meislahn, requesting that tho city remove a large oak tseG from thewstreet in front of hor property. Mr. 'heldon and Mr. 'inston informed tho Council that they had inspected the trae and'that they did not consider in in an~vay dangerous. Mr. Winston was requested to talk to Mrs. ~eislahn about the matter and try to convince her that no dangor actu~lly existed~ Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. T. C. Cork, Sr, wherein lire Cork stated that the St. Mathias Church did not have any funds available for tho purpose of paying their account for sidewalk repairs and that as they had no knowledgo that they were incurring any indebtedness for such repairs thoy were, therofore, declining any liability for the cost. After considerable discussion in appeared to be the general opinion of the Council members that no special consideration could be given the churches in this matter .
