A Spacial mooting of tho city council of the city of
61ermont VJas held at the city hall, liay 26, 1952.
The mooting was called to order by Council Prosident
T. C. Cork, Jr., at 7:30 P. M. with tho following "
mombers present. Cork, FOr~uson, Winston and George.
l\bsent: Meokor. Hayor Harper and Clerk Johnson 'IJ"Joro
also prosent.
Hayor gavQ a report on tho police department and stated
that a ~acancy again existed. Ho statod that it appearod
almost impoc:sible te obtain, or koep, satisfactory men.
A goneral discussion of tho matter followod and tho council
wore in agroemont that the present salaries of our polico
dopartment woro not very attractivo as comparod with other
wages and salaries.
I.lotion by Winston, seconded by Georgo, that Mayor Harper
bo authorized to raiso the salary of Callis W. Brooks, cnief,
to (~225.00 monthly, and that, other police officers \vere to
have a "starting" salary of ~?190.00 per month and to bo raisod
to two hundred dollars monthly aftor six months of service
provided tho mayor so recommended, and that the authorized
increase in salaries be made rotroactive to llay 15, 1952.

C16rk Johnson reported that ho had roco ivod a letter from
lire William Crowo of Black laboratories to the effect that
he recommended that tho city accept tho bid of C&nt~al Flormda
Well Drillors for now pumping equipmont and that said oquipment
bo the 50 liP motor and soven stage pump.
lIotion by Winston, soconded by Forguson, that the rocormnoddatioBs
of ~~r. Crowe be accepted and that the Clork be instructed to
inform Central Florida Ylell Drillers tho. t thoir bid was
acceptod. I'lotion carried.
