11-16-1999 Joint Meeting• Minutes • City of Clermont Police and Firefighters Pension Boards November 16,1999 Meeting started at 10:15 a.m. at the Police Department Community Services Room. Police Officers Board Members present were Oakley Seaver, Mike Scheller, Danny Cheatham and Keith Mullins. Firefighters Board Members present were Paul Anderson, Keith Mullens, and Harold Cummings. Carle Bishop and Joe Van Zile were also present. Joe Van Zile discussed with Board Members the applicability of the Government in the Sunshine Laws as they pertain to the pension boards. Copies of Florida Statutes, Chapter 175 (firefighters) and Chapter 185 (police officers) were distributed to Board Members. Specific reference was made to section's 185.05/.06 and 175.061/.071 in respect to the make-up and powers and duties of the pension boards. Copies of Chapter 46 (pensions and retirement) of the Clermont Code of Ordinances was also distributed to all Board Members. Joe Van Zile discussed the current make-up of the Boards as follows: Police Officers Sergeant Mike Scheller -Elected by Plan Members Lieutenant Danny Cheatham -Elected by Plan Members Councilmember Keith Mullins -Appointed by City Council Oakley Seaver -Appointed by City Council Firefighters Lieutenant Paul Anderson -Elected by Plan Members Firefighter Daryl Hyatt -Elected by Plan Members Councilmember Keith Mullens -Appointed by City Council Harold Cummings -Appointed by City Council Florida Statutes specify the fifth member of each Board shall be chosen by majority of the four members from each Board. After considerable discussion, Keith Mullins made a motion which was seconded by Paul Anderson, that Bo Waldrop be recommended to the City Council for appointment as the fifth member of the Firefighters Pension Board. Motion passed. • • After considerable discussion, Keith Mullins made a motion which was seconded by Oakley Seaver, that Dave Lofgren be recommended to the City Council for appointment to the fifth member of the Police Officers Pension Board. Motion passed. Both appointments will be scheduled for the November 23, 1999 Council Meeting. Upon discussion by Board Members present, it was the consensus that future Pension Board Meetings should not be held on a joint basis. In addition, Thursday mornings were considered the best day for future meetings. Meeting adjourned 10:47 a.m.
