Police OfficerslFirefighters Pension Board of Trustees Joint Meeting
November 29, 2001
Meeting started at 9:00 A.M. at the Police Department Community Services Room.
Police Officers trustees present were Keith Mullins (Chairman), Oakley Seaver,
Mike Blackmon and Mike Scheller. Firefighters trustees present were Paul Anderson (Chairman),
Keith Mullins, Richard Bell, Daryl Hyatt and Harold Cummings. Finance Director Joe Van Zile
was also present.
Minutes of the October 23, 2001 Firefighters Pension Board Meeting were approved.
Motion by Keith Mullins and seconded by Richard Bell.
Minutes of the October 23, 2001 Police Officers Pension Board Meeting were approved.
Motion by Mike Scheller and seconded by Mike Blackmon.
Finance Director Van Zile discussed the changes included in Resolutions No. 3.
Mr. Van Zile indicated the Resolutions included a recommendation to increase the
member contribution in both plans to 3% of members' pre-tax earnings. According to
discussions with the pension administrator, there would have to be vote of the plan
members to approve the increase. It was noted that this election would be held after
the recommended changes have been discussed with the City Council in workshop.
It was also noted that after the workshop with the City Council and the plan member's
election, the City Council would have to formally adopt the changes through the
approval of a Code Ordinance.
Police Officers Pension Resolution No. 3 was approved. Motion by Mike Scheller and
Seconded by Mike Blackmon. Firefighters Pension Resolution No. 3 was approved.
Motion by Richard Bell and seconded by Harold Cummings.
All pension trustee terms were set to expire at the end of November. As a result,
the same procedures that were followed initially must be followed again. The Police
Officers and Firefighters members must elect representatives again. Mr. Van Zile
indicated he would coordinate the elections. Most likely, local advertisements would
be placed to determine community interest as a basis for the council appointments.
Trustees Mr. Bell, Mr. Seaver and Mr. Cummings all indicated interest in serving on the
boards again.
