MINUTES
City of Clermont
Police Officers Pension Board of Trustees
January 6, 2000
Meeting started at 9:00 a.m. at the Police Department Community Services Room.
Trustees present were Mike Scheller, Danny Cheatham, Keith Mullens, Dave Lofgren
and Oakley Seaver. Joe Van Zile was also present.
Minutes of the November 16, 1999 were approved. Motion by Danny Cheatham,
seconded by Mike Scheller.
Keith Mullens was approved as Chairman. Motion by Danny Cheatham, seconded by
Dave Lofgren.
Mike Scheller was approved as Secretary. Motion by Danny Cheatham, seconded by
Dave Lofgren.
Joe Van Zile stated the information pertaining to the Chapter 185 required changes had
not been received from the Florida League of Cities. Information pertaining to the
changes were expected to be received shortly. According to discussion with the Florida
League of Cities personnel, it was indicated that the required changes had to be approved
by the City Council by March 31.
Trustee members discussed various other changes to the pension plan. The changes are as
follows:
• Providing a drop plan that would allow employees who would otherwise be
entitled to retire and receive benefits to continue to work and draw a salary for
a specific length of time.
• Consider an option whereas the normal retirement age would be lowered to 50
and increase the benefit accrual rate.
• Consider an option whereas the police officers could retire after 20 years,
regardless of age.
• Provide the opportunity for police officers to contribute to the pension plan
more than the current 1 %.

Joe Van Zile indicated he would get additional information about the options and present
to the trustees at a future meeting. Mike Scheller indicated he would provide copies of
other cities pension plan to the trustees at the next meeting.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Police
Department Community Services Room.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
