REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL Tue.
HANUARY 6th, 1948 7:30 p. M.
The meeting was' called to order by President R. M. Castner.
Other councilmen present, J. V. Brice, A. M. JOhnson, J. F.
Macdonald, T. F. Thompson. Also present were W. H. McQuietion
City Attorney T. C. Cork, En~ineer A. G. Cole, Dept Supts
H.M.Cole and J.B.Fullwood. .R.Harper, G. A. Nash, F. B. Roe
R. F. House and Ray L. Coon.

Minutes of the regular meetings of December 2nd and 16th ~
and Special minutes of December 5th, 6th, 9th and 29th reacr
and approved.
Fire Chief H. M. Cole's report read. One call to Dr Scotts
house, no damage done.
Mayors' report and Engi~eer's report read and placed on file.
Motion made by Mr Brice, seconded by Ur Macdonald that all
bills remaining of 1947 be paid. Motion carried
Mr Johnson and Mr Macdonald express regret at leaving the
Council and wish the Best of Luck for the 1948 Council and
Mayor.
Mr Pressley of the Florida Power eDdporation explained the
necessity of the Power Company raising the charges, SUe to
the increase in prices of Fuel Oil.
Motion made by Mr Macdonald seconded by Mr Johnson that
the 1947 Council Adjourn. Motion carried.
The new Council met immediately for organization. Mr
Castner asked Ray L. Coon "Officially" if he would accept
the Office of Treasurer for the ensuing year. Mr Coon accepted.
Mr Castner g~ve Oath of Office to Mr H. R. Happer as Mayor of
the City of lermont for the ensuing year.
Mr Harper took over the meeting, and gave Oath of Office to
G. A. Nash and F. B. Roe as councilmen, R. F. House as Tax'
Assessor and Ray L. Coon as Treasurer of the City for 1948.
Election of President for Council. Mr Roe nominated'Mr
Castner, nomination seconded by Mr Brie~. Motion made by
Mr Brice seconded by Mr Thompson that nominations be closed.
MrRoe cast one vote, unanimously electing Mr Castner President
of the Council for 1948. Mr Castner took over the Chair.
Mr Thompson nominated Mr Brice as Vice-president. Seconded
by Mr Nash. There being no further nominations, Mr Brice
was elected Vice President of the Council far the ensuing year.
Mr Castner to app.oint committee men and notif'y memeers as
soon as possible.

Mrs Foulke had the opportunity to add lot 20, block 76 to the
Library property, and is having Deeds made to the City ~
Clermont. Motion made by Mr Brice seconded by.Mr Thompson
that City pay Tax Certificates held by Mr Kern, on this
property. Motion carried.
Motion made by Ur Nash, seconded by Mr Brice that the
Citizens Bank of Clermont be Depository far the City Funds
for 1948. Motion carried.
Motion made by Mr Brice, seconded by Mr Thompson, that the
South Wall of the Clermont Theatre Building be built as a >
True Fire Wall, projecting 18 inches above the roof of the
existing structure. Motion carried.
Mr Roe and Mayor Harper suggest Councilmen cooperate in
putting into effect the use of the Parking Meters.

~otion made by Mr Brice seconded by Mr Thompson that
ourtesy cards be printed for use by the Police for
Parking Meter violations. Motion carried. Mr Harper
agreed to have: these cards printed.
Motion made by Mr Nash, sec0nded by Mr Thompson that
the Council 40 into Executive Session.. Members re -
maining Mr Castner, Mr Roe, Mr Nash, Mr Briee, Mr
Thompson, Mayor Harper and A. G. Cole.
Mrs M. H. Barnes retained as City Clerk for the ensuing
year at a salary of $200.00 per month.
$50.00 per month allowed for extra Of~ice Help for City Hall.
C. Arthur Mattson was hired as Marshall at a salary of
$200.00 per month.
Wm Kie was retained as night p!liceman at $175.00 per month.
A. G. Cole was retained as City Engineer and Building
Inspector, and appointed Gener~l City Supt, Pro-tern, for
the salary of $250.00 per month.
Irving F. Morse was engaged as City Attorney at a salary
of $50.00 per month.
H. M. Cole was retained as.Fire Chief at his present
salary of $25.00 per month.
F. S. Bliven was retained as Municipal Judge at his
present salary of $25.00 per month.

J. B. Fullwood:, Joe Austin, J .A.Adams, R. M. Morris,
c. Richardson and John Dingle were all retained at
their present wages.
Motion made by Mr Brice seconded by Mr Thompson that
C. A. Mattson collect revenue on Parking Meters.
Motion carried.
Motion made b~ Mr Brice, seconded by Mr Thompson that
City pay the ~50.00 retainer Fee to Walter Warren, for
the Civil Suit of Lane - V - Sullins. Motion carried.
There being no further business, motion made by Mr Roe
seconded by Mr Brice that the meeting adjourn.
