MI:h"UTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT
THE CITY HALL TUESDAY, SEPTEJlBER 2, 194'7 - 7 :30 P. M.
The meeting was called to order Qy president R. M. Castner.
Other Councilmen present were J.F~McDonald, J. V. Brice,
T.F.Thompson, A.M.Johnson, Mayor McQuistion, Marshal C.E.
Sullins, Engineer A. G. Cole, St.Supt. J.B.Ful1wood, Atty
T. C. Cork, Water Supt H. M. Cole, City Clerk R.F.House
and Mrs M.R.Barnes.
Minutes of the meetings or August 5, 9, 19, and 26th were
read and approved..
The ~ayor's report was read, in w~ich he reported 2 arrests
were made, 3 cases carried over from July, making a total of
5 cases,fines and forreits, in the amount of $50.00 paid
over to the City Clerk.
The Marshal's Report was the same as that or the Mayor, in
regard to arrests and fines and rorfeitures collected.
Fire Chief Cole reported two rires. 1 in the yard ~ Fred
Driggs and put out by H.IIl.Co1e. The other a car on Tont.I'.
and Juniata, put out by Mr Fullwood. Battery was charged,
Truck checked twice and round to work O.K.
Mayor McQuistion read a letter from Mrs E. Kimball asking
permission to use the Community Building in which to hold
dancing classes. Atty Cork advised us the building is
not to be used rcr Commercial purposes. Clerk to write
Mrs Ki'll.ball.
Ur Castner spoke on the advisability of filling in West
Lake. Motion was made by Mr Brice, seconded by Mr Thompson
and carried that Street Sweepings and other materials not
garbage be dumped in West Lake.
Mr E. Shank asked permission to errect signs directing to
Lake Highlands Hotel. This is agreeable unless there is
an ordhnance to the contre~. Mayor McQuistion to handle
this.
After discussing the Utility Tax a motion was made by Mr
Mcdonald and seconded by Mr Johnson to read the Ordinance
a second time by Title on~~. Ordinance to be amrnended to
change Section 1, lin~ Q~~iguring $100.00 instead of $25.
minimum. On Roll Call Vote the result was as follows -
Ayes - Mr Castner, Mr Johnson, Mr Mcdonamd.
No s - Mr Thompson, Mr Brice.
Motion was carried. Ordinance was read by Title only and
tabled until the next meeting.
Mr Lyle Brantly and Mr Ray Coon asked Prinoe Edward St. be
clayed. Motion was made by Mr Johnson seconded by Mr
Mcdonald this request be tabled until we find funds
available. Motion carried.

Mr Brice was asked to contact Mr Sheppard about auditing.
~ayor McQuistion to appoint Board or Adjustment for Zoning.
Motion was made by Mr Brice, seoonded by Mr Macdonald that
Mr A.G.Cole be granted $20.00 per month for car expense,
beginning September 1st, 1947. Motion carried.
Motion made by Mr Brice seconded by Mr Macdonald that Mr
F.S.Blevin be elected Municipal Judge beginning September
1st. Motion carried with the approval of the Mayor.
Motion made by Mr Brice, seconded by Mr,Thampson to waive
ohange in plans tor Colored Church. Uarried.
Mrs Barnes to be paid $200.00 per ~onth.
Motion made by Mr Macdonald seconded by Mr Brice that City
Atty. draw an ordinance to set millage 11 and 14, carried.

The Mayor reported Odell Potts night policeman quit his
job. Application rrom S.F.Coker of Lakeland was read, and
the mayor to check on rererences given.
Motion made by Mr Johnson, seconded by Mr Macdonald bills
be paid when runds were available.
There being no further business at this time, the Council
adjourned, to meet at the call or the president.
