REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY
HALL TUESDAY, MAY 20, 1947, 7:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by president R.M.Castner,
other councilmen present being J.V.Brice, A.M.Johnson, J.F.
Macdonald, and T.F.Thompson. Also present were Mayor W.H.
McQuistiont Marshal C.E.Sullins, Engineer A.G.Cole, Street
Supt. J.B.~'Ullwood, City Attorney T.C.Cork, and City Clerk
R.F.House.

r~. Blumenberg was peesent and asked that the Council
close Eleventh Street South of Minnehaha Ave, and stated he
would like to bU7 it to square up his property there. The
Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Blumenberg that the property
could nat be sold, but kBx<<mHX<<xHxsx t~ abutting property
owners could use the land but not put any structure or perman-
ent improvement on it.
There was some discussion about spray
City Park on Lake Minneola to load and mix
and the Marshal was instructed to see them
another place to do this work.

Mr. Brice made a motion that lots 6 & 6, bloc~90, be
relinquished to the County for the purpose of V.F.W. Post
No. 5277 erecting a permanent home, Mr. Macdonald seconded
the motion, and when put to a vote, the motion carried.
Mr. Smith thanked the Council fo~ the V.F.W.
Mr. Smith Stated that the State Convention of Rural Mail
Carriers would br held in Clermont June 29, 30, and July 1~ ·
!~. Brice made a motion, seconded by Mr. Macdonald that the
City furnish the programs. The motion carried.
1~. Brice made a motion, seconded by Mr. Macdonald, that the
Mayor send out letters to the mail Carriers. The rno~ion carried.
Mr. Sanger asked for a couple street lights in the alley
back of his business, and the Clerk was instructed to add it
to the list wanted.
E.J.Rogers, who has had a trailer parked near Twelfth St.
for nearly a year, was notified to move or stamt building
within 30 days, or the City would take action.
A letter from J.D.Jolly about an accident he had here
was read, and the Clerk was instructed- to write him thalthe
Insurance Co. was handling the matter.
Mr. Sullins stated that he wanted to buy lot 8, blOCk~l,
and made an offer of $250.00 for it. Mr. Thompson made a~mot.~
to eell him the lot, but there was no second, so to. e motion died.
Burke Chesten,County Banitar,r Officer, said their Dept.
waS sp raying all buidings in the different towns in Lake Co.,
XftRX with DDT to kill insects; the treatment was good for
ab out 6 months, and would cost about 5()1$ per building if the
City would furnish the labor. Mr. Brice made a motion that
the Health Dept. spray all buildings in town, with the City
furnishing the labor. The motion was secohded by Mr. Thompson,
and carried.

Mr. Chester said the Health Dept. were putting on a campaign
to rat-proof all buildings next month, and if the Council wanted
them to do that, they would saart it next month. They examine
each building and show the owner how bo make it ra~-proof, and
trap and poison the rats already there. No action was taken.
The Contract with the Welfare League had been rewritten
by the City Attorne~, andafter it was read in full, the Mayor
and City Clerk were instructed to sign it.

This years tax sale of delinquent 1946 taxes was set fo~
July 1st, and the Clerk instructed to advertise same. ~

A. G. Cole reported he had been to Gainsvi11e on road v~
business. Mr. Brice made a motion, seconded by Mr. Macdonald'
and carried, that Mr. Cole be reimbursed $13.00 for expenses ~
for the trip.
