MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD
AT THE CITY HALL TUESDAY, MAY 6, 1947, 7:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by president R.M.
Castner, other Councilmen present being J.V.Brice, A.M.
Johnson, J.F.Macdonald, andT.F. Thompson. Also present
were Mayor W.H.McQuistion, Marshal C.E.Sullins, Engineer
A.G.Cole, Water Supt H.M.Cole, Street Supt. J.B. Fullwood

Minutes of the April meeting~were read and approved.
Mr. Blumenberg asked the Council to close Eleventh
Street south of Minnehaha Ave. ~e Matter was tabled until
we could get the opinion of the City Attorney,
Mayor McQuistion reported 20 a~rests and $475.00 in
fines and forfeits collected and turnes over to the Ci~ Clerk.
Chief of Police Sullins reported the same as the Mayor.
Fire Chief H.M.Cole reported no fires in the month of
April.
The ~ater Supt.reported ~ressing with the laying of
lar~r water mains.
The City Attorney had prepared two acts for the State
Legislature, one to enlarge the City Limits, and the other
to provide for a Municipal Judge. Resolution and copy of
the proposed acts follows the minutes of thisB meeting.
Mayor McQuistion was asked to see the Cit,y Attorney
about the Sewa@:) IIll. tter, about the Clinic Contract with the W
Welfare Lee. gue, and the Ordinance about fire escapel! for
Public Buildings.
T"e Matter of Parking meters was brought up, and M.r,
Brice made a motion that we do not have them. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Johnson, and when put to a vote, the motion
carried.
~e matter of lots for the V.F.W. was tabled until
they bring a proposition ~o the Council what they are willing
to do.
Mr. Anglemeir had written, asking the City to rent
the Tar-kettle to him. ~e City Clerk was instruc'ed to
write him that the City did not want to rent out any
equipment to anyone at any time.
Mr. A.G.Cole had a proposition to put two metal
,; ladders on the muniCipal dock at the north end of eighth
Street, and Mr. Brice made a motion, seconded by Mr.
Thompson that the ladders br installed, one at the end of
the dock, and one out about half way for the smaller chilred.
when put to a vote, the motion carried. The installation
,to be under the supervidion ~ A.G.Cole, City Engineer.
H.M.Cole was imstructed yo spray West Lake to help
control the Mosquitoes.
All the Council agreed that the Chamber of Commerce
could have their office inthe City Hall.
Mr. Brice made a motion that Juniata Street be closed
between East Ave. and Second Street. The motion was
seconded by: Mr" Macdonald, and when put to a vote, the
motion carried.~~epe
The re wa s some dissc.ssion of closing Seee Third
and Fourth Streets between Chestnut and Broome Street~,
but the matter was tabled until the next meeting,
A letter from the American Fruit Hrowers about sanitary
conditions in the small houses back of their plant was read,
and the Council left it to The City Clerk and Engineer to
get it str~ght with the American Fruit Growers.

Mr. JohbBon made a motion, seconden by Mr Br&ce, and
carried, that the ~ollC1Ning list of bills be approved, and paid wh
when money is available.
There being no ~urther businessat this time, the Council
adj ourned, to meet at tm call of the president.
