MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE' CITY HALL
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15th, 1947, 7: 30 P. M.
The meet~,ng was cf.lled to order by the president, R.M.
Castner, other CotU1cilmen present being J.V.Br,#:ce, J.F.Macdonald,
and T.F.Thompsono Mayor McQuistion, Marshal Sullins Street
Supt. ~~, J.B.Fullwood, Water Supt. H.M.Cole, City Engiil0o~
A. G Cole, and City Clerk R.F.House were also present.
The request of BOb Attkisson for a liquo~ License in
Lincoln Park was discussed, and Mr. Brice made a motion, 2=~':':-=-.3:
by Mr. Macdonald that the license be granted,' the business to
be operated in Bill Cooper's Building. When put to a vote, the
motion carried.
Mr. Castner stated he thought the new Council should take
up one project and caFry it through to a successfull conclusion.
Garbage disposal was suggested as the first project, and the
Sanitation Committee were requested to bring in some proposal
on the next meeting night. \
The Street Committee were instructed to take care of the
barricadoo~n Juniata Street between Lake Ave. & Fifth Sto
Street lights were discussed, and ~~. Macdonald made a
motion, seconded by Mr. Brice, that t;:he llori da Public Service \,[
be requested to pu~ up lights at ~
1. Highland and Lake Aves.
2. Seventh St & Juniata St
\~en put to a vote the motion carried.
1.ffr. Macdonald made a motion, sec:onded by Mr. Brice, and
carrie d, that t:he City Clerk write Darley Co. that if traffic
lights ord0red had not already been shipped, to cancel the
order, as we will not accept them.
Mr. and Mrs Nevman requested a reserved place for parking
taxi-cab in front of theeir lunch stand. On motion of Mr.
Brice, seconded by ~~. Macdonald, wh&ch carried, the request
was denied, and the Clerk instructed to so notify them.
Mr. A.G.Cole was requested to see the State Road Dept.
about erecting small sigh on Fifth Street, pointing toward
Orlando. Also a sign at the Dead End of Eighth St. at
Lake Minneola.
Mr. Brice made a motion, seconded by Mr Macdonald and
carried, that the second Council meeting each month be changed
from third Wednesday to Third Tuesday, after Fob 1st.
A letter from Mr. Aland about constructing 2-unit houses
was read by City Engineer Cole. Mr. Macdonald made a motion,
seconded by Mr. Brice and carried, that the Counci).,is
unanimously in favor of the project, although it is prohibited
by the Zoning Ordinance; and the Council is taking immediate
steps to amend the Zonipg Ordinance. The City Clerk was
instructed to notify Mr. Aland.
The matter of a new lawn mower was tabled.
!,~r. Brice made a motion, seconded by 1lqr. Thompson, and
carrie d, that if t"-e Am9rican Legion will furnish the pipe,
the City will install it and furnish water to tJ'e Legion
Center at regular rates until this amounts to the cost of
the pipe, at which time thn pipe becomes the p~operty of the
City, and the Legion will pay for water used thereafter.
The Cou...ncil stated their approval of City Engineer A.G.
Cole making map of Head 22 through the City.
In the matter of a police car, the Clerk was instructed
to see if a new car could be procured, and Mr. Sullins was
asked to make a proposi t~on on selling his car to the City'.
He offered to sell it to the City for $1275.00, as is. It
is equipped with pDactically new tires, new battery, siren
and Sp?t light. The Council agreed to take the matter up
at the next meeting.
