08-13-1946 Special Meeting
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY HALL,
TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1946, 7:30 P.M.
Vice-president H.C.Brown, Councilman J.F. Macdonald, Mayor
W.H.McQuistion, City Attorney Irving Morsa, City Engineer
Alfred G. Cole, Water Supt. H.M. Cole, and City Clerk R.F.
House were present, but there being no quorum of the
council, Mr. Brown just stated that the purpose of the
meeting was to discuss the purchase of a water tank, which
Councilman F.B.Roe in AShville, ~.C. had phoned tlw City
Clerk about.

In the discussion, is was recalled that when our ,
present tank was being repaired, the tank men stated that
riveted tanks were almost obsolete, and that practicallY~
all tanks now ~e!sg installed, were Llr~'~drtanks. Al~
costs of erecting tanks were several times the cost of the
materials. A survey to determine the best plan to follow
to provide future needs seems necessary, and it was not thought
advisable to spend this amount of money unless it would fit
in with a long range plan for increased water supply in that
particular area. After the discussions, Mr. Brown composed
the following telegram, which was agreed to by all present:
"On ac'count absolute necessity for careful survey to determine
exact level with present system and further importance of a
welded tank we do not believe it advisable to purchase this
tank. II
The telegram was sent, to M. H.Stral,n, 556 Marion Ave.,
Ashville N.C., as Mr. Roe had said it would reach him there.
There being nothing further at this time, the meeting adjourned.
