CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD
AT THE CITY HALL TUESDAY,DECffiJBER 5,1944, at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President F. Bo Roe,
other councilmen present being R. M. Stackhouse, F. H. Higby
and C. W. Gaines. Marshal Sullins and City Clerk R. F. House
were also present. Street Superintendent H. M. Cole and City
Attorney Irving Fo Morse ca~e in a few minutes later.
The minutes of th e meetings of November 7 and 24th were
read and approved.
Mro Wo Fo Williams had the auditor's report prepared
and outlined the main points to the council. A motion was
made by Mr. Gaines, seconded by Mro Stackhouse, that the
auditor's report be acceptedo
The Mayor's and Marshal's reports were read. The MarShal
reported fifteen arrests and bonds forfei ted and fine s col-
lected amount ing to $203050 which was turned over to the City
Clerk. One case was dismissed and one was suspended.
Attorney Morse had pre}:B.red an ordinance on elections~
which was tabled until the next meeting. He reported a bid
had been sent in for Murphy act lands and he was he ving about
75 more lots checked overo
Mr. Gaines made a moti onll seconded by Mro Higby, that
all state and county certificates on city-owned property be
redeemed 0
The Fire Chief reported no fires during the month and
tha t th9 fire engine was c he eked each week and found okay.
Mro Higby made a motion that the salary of the Tax
Assessor for next year be $200000 but there were no seconds
so the motion was dropped 0
Mr. Gaines made a motion, seconded by Mr. Stackhouse,
tha t the assessment agains t the Arne rican Agricultural Chemical
Company fOr personal property be cancelled.
Mro Stackhouse made a motion, seconded by Mr. Higby,
that the state and county taxes on the Frame and Chardevoyna
groves be left to Mro Roe to make the best settlement pos sible.
Mr. Cole was given author ity to get extra parts for .the
street mowero
