10-03-1944 Regular Meeting ~ ,., CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY HALL TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3,1944, at 7:45 P.M. 'l'he meeting was called to order bY'~resident .F. H. Higby, other Counoilmen present being ~.M.Castner, C.W. Gaines and R.M.Staokhouse. Mayor H.e.Brown, Marshal C.E.Sullins, City Attorney Irving Morse, and City Clerk R.F .House were also present. Minutes of the meeting Sept. 5 were read and approved. Mr. Reid, representing John J. Harte t~ii~~,i Company, Engineers, was present to discuss plans for sewage dis- posal after the war. After some talk he agreed to come baok Frid~, Oot. 6th to look over the ground and make smme proposal for engineering services. Geo. Nagel, representing the Clermont Planning Com- mittee, came in and stated that the Committee thought one of the neoessary Ordinamces was a Building Code. After some disoussion the Building Committee of the Council agreed, to meet with the Planning Committee to see if some satisfaotory code could be arranged. The 8treet Committee reported that the street mower was completed and ready to start work the next da~. The Standard Oil Company oomplained that the water from West Ave. ran across their lot and was damaging the drivway and supports for their tanks. The street Com- mittee agreed to meet their .H.epresentative, Harry Add,ison to see if some arrangeme~nt could be made to take oare of drainage of West Ave. 'llhe Wa te r 8upt. reporte d, wat er to Flemings at ore wa s not met ered, and he was instructed to see that it was connected properly. Mayor Brown ~ead his report, stating there were there were 9 oases in Polioe Court, with fines assessed and collected amounting to ~83.00. One case dismissed. He requested an ordinanoe for regulations toward rat control. He stated that Oct. 9-14 has been desig- nated "Clean-up Week"and urged everyone to co-operate. He reoommended that a street light be installed on Twelfth Street midway between MOntrose St & Highland Ave. Mrs. Betty Stokes and Miss Florence Pool, representing th e Welfare League, came in and asked permission to put on a Street Carnival, home talent, Novembe r 4th. Mr. Stackhouse made a motion that the League have permission to sponsor such a Camnival. ~he motion was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, the motion cU:1rried. Mr. Staokhouse made a motion, seconded by Mr. Castner that the City Attorney draw up an ordinanoe for the control of r~ts along the lines suggested by Mayor Brown. When put to a vote, the motion carried. ~ ---.,., ~he C~mmittee on Street lighting were requested to look into the matter of securing a light on Twelfth St. Marshal Sullins reported 9 arrests, with fines and costs amounting to ~83.00 collected and turned over to the City Clerk City Attorney Morse reported having the State & County Tax roll checked tha had reverted to the state, and that he,was compiling a list, but it was not yet complete The Building Committee to confer with the City Attorney on lots to be select ed . Mr. Gaines made a mojion, which was seconded by Mr. Castner and carried, that the City Attorneys License fee be refunded to him. Fire Chief Achord's report stated there were no fire calls in Sept., and the engine checked eaoh week O.K. A telegram from Smith & Gillespi~ w~s re~d, that sta ted they would oontact the Cit y Off" ic :1als ~n tlie near future in regard to a proposal for post-war plans.
